The 4.xx poll - please read if you own an emag

This poll is meant to judge interest in an alternative firmware set for emags. This would not be an AGD-supported set of software, it would be independantly produced and released. This is not about 4.xx, it is about something similar to 4.xx that does the same thing but wouldn't come from AGD.

How do you feel about the emag software?

• I own an emag - I am happy with the current (3.2) software as-is.
  
• I own an emag - I can outperform it and I would be interested in a new version of software with more features and a higher cap.
  
• I own an emag - I want new software and would pay money upfront for development of new software.
  
• I don't own an emag but I would be interested in supporting an upgrade project.
  
• I don't own an emag and I don't see a reason to try and upgrade it.
  
• I used to own an emag - I sold it because I could outperform it/didn't like the featureset/had issues with the software or design.
  

If any moderators want to help out, I'd like to run this poll for two weeks, starting tonight, feb 7th, and running until feb 21st. I'd like to see it stickied for the duration, but I'll bump/discuss in the thread if a sticky won't fly.

Umm, yeah, this is not going to help. Trust me AGD knows there is a demand for it, so making a poll probably will not change their minds. But who knows.

I just added a bit to the post to clarify. I'm not trying to change anyone's mind, I'm trying to prove the point that not many people need any "new" software.

I don't know what's wrong with 3.2, I'm hoping to find out. :P

Simple...you can't cheat with it.

And since 4.2 doesn't including ramping software it's a useless upgrade anyway...unless you LIKE getting DQ'd for un-initiated random cases of fully automatic fire.

The emag board supports a tourney-lock jumper inside the grip, ramping could be developed for it. Though, in that situation, you're better off getting it predator'd or morlocked.

I think I voted for the wrong one... Anyways, I honestly think it would be cool to have F/A option for scenario/rec players, mainly because I am lazy and after getting whomped with my Phantom occasionally feel the need to shoot massive amounts of paint. That being said I really don't have a problem with the software. Now the manual describing how to use it...

The board jumper is simply a I/O connection. You have to add specific code regardless of the 'jumper'. The biggest issue I would think is the severly limited memory on the ATMEL. I'd be suprised if you could add Ramping to 4.2 or 3.2 for that matter.It would likely require completely new software version and possibly a reduction in 'other' features.

I've already looked into socketing the emag board and dropping a different chip in, but once it has gone that far it's probably best to just rebuild the whole darn board. There's no pin-compatible chip that provides extra flash space anyways - the ATtiny2313 would work but it's the same specs as the AT90S2313 that's being used.

Could leave out all the character mapping for the LED display and save a ton of room, but people wouldn't like that.

I suppose the whole point of this poll is to justify buying an emag frame to mess around with. And I want to prove that not that many people care about 4.xx - it's just the most annoying and vocal part of the community that keeps latching onto the idea of 4.xx and "new stuff".

I would like to see developement of the 4.2 or something simular. Software is ever changing industry wide except our beloved E/Xmags. Wether or not you agree or disagree with rules on rate of fire or rebounding issues. One has got to look at the bottom line. Mags get out gunned by the bigger companys markers. Granted we still hold are own, but we aren't bring in new mag people only loosing mag people tournament wise. 3.2 isn't going to hold it's own forever. AGD might be out of the tournament scene, but I'm not finished yet. I would pay to have software simular to 4.2 and the development of such software. Mainly because i'd like to keep the little red screen and my 2 little buttons intacked while having something a little better.

I havn't done it myself but Miscue says that 21-23 is where the solenoid starts shortstroking at. If people want 1-3 more BPS then so be it.
