Get the ion and with a progressive barrel. It shoots like a shocker and costs much less. It weighs less than a cheap mag and is easier to fix than a cocker. and it has all the e-modes that the high end guns have.
trilogy cocker or new pro classic mag?

and over time, once you have upgraded everything, you will have all the parts necessary to have built 2 mags. so keep those parts.Originally posted by djechyand with the mag i can do so much more, ULE body, xvalve(or just a level10), ULT, intelliframe, and more. this is probably what i am going to get.Comment

Wait, you don't know any rec speedballers who classify themselves as playing a position they normally gravitate to in rec games? OK, moving on...Originally posted by teufelhundenUh, I dont know of any rec guys who are "back players," considering rec'ers don't strat at all.

Are you suggesting that because any 'gun can simply fire balls that it is acceptable for any style of play or use with any group of players? That is a dangerous position to take. Is it ok then if dwell can be changed and the velocity can ramp too? I mean really, it's not like the velocity spikes are the only thing it can do, right?
And honestly, the argument that "ramping is ok for tourney play" is pretty weak anyway. We all know that tournament promoters changed their rules primarily because it has proven to be too difficult to catch players cheating under old rules.
The tournament vs. rec mentality in our sport really needs to stop. Unless you are a professional player, there really is no such thing as dedicated equipment for tourney use only. Yes, there may be a few rare instances of guys who only use one 'gun for tournaments only but we have to assume that Tiny Tommy with the Timmy will be using his ramping boards at his local pball field and with his buddies at the renegade game behind his friend's house.
Just to make sure everyone hasn't forgotten the business aspect of our game: at least 90% of the revenue in our sport comes from recreational players. As tournament level equipment drops in price and becomes easier for rec players to purchase, more and more 'guns that should never leave the tournament playing field are going to be used in recreational play. How many eye injuries will it take before insurance companies or legislators (even worse) step in with a "solution".
It is time we all stepped back and really looked closely at where things are headed and the logical outcome. I was pretty heavily involved with ATVs in my younger days. I remember very clearly the "evil 3 wheelers" and the "terrible risk" they presented. Guess what, they don't make them any more. Four wheeled ATV sales have rebounded but there was a time when even the future of four wheeled ATVs looked pretty grim. Manufacturers stopped producing new models and severly cut back on the offerings they had. Numerous lawsuits, CPSC investigations, and hearings in Washington tend to scare off manufacturers.
Trust me, when lawyers and legislators start getting more and more involved, nothing good can come of it.

ramping is for idiots.no skill, no game, mostly 12 year olds who have to ask mommy for money. i have an emag. i've shoot 2 ions. yeah, there fast. i really doubt the ion will improve your game tbh. get the classic. if you what to upgrade, its a good starting point. and it can always be converted to a devilmag
and as the devilmag promo vid shows, you don't need to ramp
and jkr, you are so right. people WILL get hurt. its only a matter of time.

dont buy either
if you're a Tourney backplayer, you gotta laydown paint, shoot lanes, and give cover. I recommend something you can easily do 15-17 bps with. I have 2 Impulses, and they lay out enough paint to do just about anything
Buy used, get either Impulse, bKo of somesort(i dont recommend them though), the ION is a good choice, or you could always find yourself a hellacheap e1 cocker, but there were eye problems with it, and its "not fast enough" for some ppl. a stock e1 cocker should be in the 350s range, or you could pickup a war machines assault 80 (hey, no flaming, its a good gun once you work out the kinks)I've seen these for CHEAP, and they're fast. As for a mag, if you want fast, emag, but then again, unless its all ULE, they're heavy, and i haven't heard too many good things speed-wise. Also, supposedly, the Diablo Wrath is just like an ion, only a little faster, but you cant beat the IONS break Beam laser Eyes
All in all, its a comfort thing, but for a backplayer, you're gonna need something faster than a mech cocker, or mech mag.
Unless of course you just play for fun, then go with the mag. Consistant, never breaks, and they look way cooler, even without a moving backblock. Plus, upgrades, ULE, ULT, and XVALVES will get your mag looking and working great. On the downside, if you spend like 300 extra for xvalve, LVL 10, ULE, and ULT (actually, its more like 400+ new, but who cares)
you could have gotten an e2'd cocker, and smoked the field
what are you planning on doing with it? And have you felt, held and shot either of these guns? Some guns are just uncomfortable unless you are used to themRAWR

dont listen to the guys debating ramping and such, just get the mag. Ions are for kids that want to be all cool but their parents wont buy them an expensive gun. I'm perfectly fine with shooting 10 bps when playing rec.Automag RT Pro
ULE Body
RT Valve w/ LvL 10
AM/MM Rail
Intelliframe
Custom Products Matrix barrel
CP small drop

no. your the one who is wrong mag8888. very, very wrong. eye injuries, or head injuries are related to ramping and f/a. but my guess is you spend more time posting and posing than playing
heres an idea! go get good and lite up by someone with a"good" ramping marker. or how about letting me dump 12 on you from my "slow" emag.

I don't agree with you with a lot of that stuff you just said but whatever, heres my opinion. Pre-ramping i.e. age of the was board. People were shooting bouncing timmys 15+ bps, now we have a controlled 15 bps which is really good. Today at the badlandz chitown 5 man series, you should of seen the guns blazing, many definitely doing over 15 and they never even checked once. One of our guns was having bouncing problems and we had the debounce up high but we decided to just try to use it and we never heard a word about it. Guess how they could of caught our bouncing timmy? Hell, fire 3 shots with it and you'd see. I didn't see anyone get checked except once for a bouncing gun.Originally posted by JKRWait, you don't know any rec speedballers who classify themselves as playing a position they normally gravitate to in rec games? About the whole tourney player vs. rec. Most of the tourney players I know never bother wasting paint in rec, and if we play rec, we play with the good guys on speedball fields who don't bother getting shot. If everyone wears good quality atsm certified lenses I don't think we will have many problems. Hell, I'd love to see a regulating body come in and change everything bad about paintball and make it good but I don't think that is going to happen.
Yeah, I guess lets see, I have no skill, no game, and am 12? Lets see here, none of those are true. Wait dude, I guess those guys on infamous and dynasty have no skill?Originally posted by bound for gloryramping is for idiots.no skill, no game, mostly 12 year olds who have to ask mommy for money. i have an emag. i've shoot 2 ions. yeah, there fast. i really doubt the ion will improve your game tbh. get the classic. if you what to upgrade, its a good starting point. and it can always be converted to a devilmag

if you're trying to say getting hit 12-15 times in a lens and it wont damage it(the lens) just because its approved for paintball...well, lets just call you an idiot and be done with it
its been said in a thread on this site and many, many others that theres been NO testing done on REPEATED hits on lens. take a look...
