    Go work out!!!!

This statement seems to piss many ppl off. I dont know why though. Whether it is to lift weight or to go running. PPL seem to take it as a personal afront to their lifestyle or leisure time. Why is this.

    Damn I forgot this part.
I have seen many post in PBtalk where this statement has come out and it has ended up in a flame btwn members. Does anyone else work out to help them better perfom in PB.

My apologies to those who posted before this edit.

Ahh, yes, the old exercise debate. I think you will find a lot posts on this subject in some older threads. I won't rehash, but perhaps other will.

Anyhow, people never want to believe that they could, or rather, should be doing things differently. I am not saying that you must work out, as it is your life. Whatever the case may be, it is hard to accept one's flaws, and even constructive criticism is still criticism. This is why there is so much rationalization that goes on. I know people who drink too much. They say "oh, it's my liver, and how do you know what is too much for me," and make other such remarks. The same goes for people with all sorts of other flaws. Of course, there are the old stanby lines such as "nobody's perfect," or "there are worse things I could be doing." I suppose that could be sometimes true, but the truth of those statements doesn't preclude the validity of one's arguments that certain habits or actions should be avoided. I will say that I do think that there are a lot of poeple who need to hit the gym.

because of the recent need or feeling of need of the new members to post on anything like this is some sort of small talk.

if you want to be stronger or in shape you have to lift/be active....

i work out three to five times a week, and whenever i go out to the field to play i can last so much longer running from place to place then when i first started.
(obviously i'm not saying that you have to work...but...)

Yes - my workout routine is specifically centered around attributes that I think will help me in paintball... it could be better than it is, but it is based on PB

ditto, it's gotten bad enough that , on rare occasion, I enjoy getting shot.

I take it as much an offence as someone telling me to "Go walk off a bridge". The manner in which it's usually said is "Well if you can't do [Feat #574], then you need to work out". No, I don't need to work out. I don't need to be able to bench press 300 pounds. I don't need to be able to run a 100k. And I don't have to be what your idea of "ideal" is.

Typicly anything said in that manner "You need to do [x]" is just plain rude, childish, and in most cases, extremely condecending. I know a lot of people that don't know how to use computers, much less program them. But I don't go around saying "If you can't write programs for a computer, you need to go back to school"

Not being able to run a mile in under 9 minuntes or not being able to bench press 200 pounds, etc. etc. are not the same thing as drinking too much.

Just because someone thinks that another person should work out dosen't mean they're right. Or that they have the right to critisize someone for those flaws. It is a matter of opinion. I personally (i.e. opinion) think a lot of people who "work out" and are "in shape" have a serious superiority complex. Many think that everyone should do the same. And many think that it's OK to tell complete strangers that they need to go the same.

Maybe it's rationalization for spending so much time on something that could have been better spent. But then again, that's just my opinion.

I'll say that I think there are a lot of people who need to be drug out into the streets and beaten.

But seriously, does that mean it's OK for me to say to someone "You need to be drug out into the street and beaten"?

                        No.

Is it anything other that personal opinion in the first place?

                        No. It's not.

the reason is because our society is lazy as a whole. Americans work longer hours per year than most other countries, but do a half arse job. (not everyone, dont take offense, this is just my experience from traveling/living abroad) Americans try to automate everything, and do not want to do work. That is why they are offended when you say go work out. Thats because they think you are considering them lazy or weak.

I personally used to work out 4-6 days a week and was really pleased w/ my appearance. Now though, I too am guilty of being lazy at times, and find myself having trouble getting into the routine thing. But I am by no means weak.

PPl get offended because usually they are talking about weight of setups which is a relative weight when compared to others. Then they say that an 9-10 lbs setup is heavy (which it is), and then you say lift some weights. You are being sarcastic because they can easily lift 10 lbs. Its not that 10 lbs is heavy, but it is fairly heavy for a gun setup.

It makes perfect sense. PPl dont like you to tell them what THEY need to do. Even though I do believe that our society should be more fit through increase in activity. We seem to control lunchroom food in public schools instead. Which in my opinion is not the schools right, or obligation. Thats just how our society is these days. PPL are becoming less free to make thier own decisions w/o govt. intervention into everyday lives. It used to not be that way. What happened? I know, but dont want to say online.
