Some of you may remember this from last october..

Victoria Snelgrove's family was just awarded a settlement of over $5mil from the city of Boston. She was killed in October when she wa struck in the eye with a projectile from a FN303, fired by Boston PD when they were trying to control the crowd around Fenway Park. The crowd was partying after the Red Sox beat the Yankees in the ALCS in 2004.

An investigation is still underway regarding the actual incident, with the possibility of charges being brought against the officer that discharged the FN303 into a crowd - for negligence.

I don't think they were using FN303's. I remember seeing a picture of the event, with officers holding markers with hoppers.

There will a whole debacle of what she was shot with on these forums. I think the real question is was the equipment used in question "applied/used" in a corect or optimal manner.

In anycase, a shot to the eye is a statistically rare occurence? unless it was intentional maybe?

Yes, they were using FN303s. I was also down there when it happened. BPD bought a bunch of them for the Democratic National Convention, and has since pulled all of them from service.

Yes they were fn303 but the kicker maybe the officer who fired it was not trained to use one.

Only one of the officers who carried a FN303 that night was trained to use it. According the news reports at the time of the incident, he did not even fire his weapon.
