I'm not "in the know" on tournament things enough or recent paintball history to catch the other innaccuracies.
Yes, some things were not quite right for me either. But when I look at an article as an Op-Ed piece I expect that.

Interesting articles, but just like all his other articles, that guy writes horribly.

        I really liked it.
It is bringing up stuff not every player knows.
I have been playing with mech markers for ever and I have heard of all of the cheater modes but I never saw this much detail in each cheat.
I read this thing just as he was trying to say.
Cheating is all over the place and it is expected for turney players and hype kids at fields.
I see everything wrong with cheating.

I dont see how anyone can see a paint wiping, cheater mode user as someone to look up to. Is that your role model for young player? Right now I say yes it is.
I only hear about the players that cuss and cheat. What team has the balls to stand up and say we dont cheat! and prove it.

The first time I picked up a Splatmaster I played with other people that would call out when they got hit no matter what. I saw what they did and I played like them. I dont over shoot and I dont wipe, even when I play a big game and there is not a ref around, I get hit, see that it broke and I walk off on my own accord. Am I better player because of that, I think so. The only person I would be hurting is my self, but hey with the view of all of the turney players I would be a idiot to not wipe and keep playing.

        Sorry my rant is over.

i am a pb2x suscriber, i like the magazine, but, some of the cheating articles just make me roll my eyes and chuckle, it seems that afew authors for them ar convinced that any kid with a nice gun is just a spoiled brat with no skills, and that they cheat, which, is more often than not, not the case at all, wahtever, is still an interesting magazine

The article took me a while to read, and I am not by anymeans an expert in electronic markers at all nor thier cheating capabilities.

I did very much like his discussion on the types of paintball players:

If you look closely, paintball has five major levels from cleanest to filthiest. Rec ball with family, church, friends, co-workers is just a delight to organize and play.

Locals-only big games determined to have a local flavour without major sponsors is also great fun as it invites newcomers like no other organized sport around and doesn't prejudice against their lower end gear or relative inexperience if there are a hundred players with that newbie.

The third level, walk on specifically targeting tournament play with more narrowly minded players, sees the fun of thrown together teams and safety rules but with hints of anger and concentration and single-purpose play.

The fourth level, street or guerilla paintball, such as non-chronographed woods outlaw play or rule-less speedball play, is so decentralized and separate from anything paintball that it only serves the purpose of satisfying temporary needs.

The final level is tournament play, and its worst offenders win major titles with ramp, bounce, software and wiping.
Where do you fall on this hierarchy? I would make a guess that a good 90% of paintball practitioners fall in the first 3 levels, yet the industry and the focus of this article seems to stand with the 5th coulmn players.

Why is it that we let the 10% of the playing public define what the rest of us are about? Why must we suffer the 'slings and arrows' of the misconduct of the very visible minority?

And why do we as the largest groups of players allow this misconduct to happen in the first place? I remember reading the comments of a senior member of this board who no longer played rec-walkon with the jersey clad, foul mouthed, agressive and angry 15 year olds due to this very problem. I tend to agree with that statement.

I play this sport becuase I LOVE it! When it starts turning into a win at all costs sport, I will quit or crawl back to the small fields and home woodsball play that I grew up on and which formed the sport.

I will be very interested in what this article generates in terms of discussion here on AO...

It mentioned compressed air and CO2 being mixed in a tank. What good would that do? Seems rather pointless to me.

                my eyes hurt now.
But he really did single out some teams there. I learned a lot about bounce, ramping and everything else.
