    Anodizing NIGHTMARE!!!!56k beware!!!

    Hello AO,

Well apparently bargain hunting bit me in the *** today. I sent my gun for anodizing on the 25th of April and it finally came back today. Everything seemed nice until I opened the box. When I looked at the parts they were covered with oil. I'm not sure how anodizing companys do things so I have no idea whats up with that. Well i'll let the pictures speak for themselves.......

Any advice on how to approach this??? I have all the e-mails and money order slips. Thanks

Hard to argue with a statement like that.

That's terrible. Demand a full refund and send it to a new vendor.

Before your write it off as a total loss, try wiping some motor oil on it (whatever weight, doesn't matter) and letting it set for an hour or so.

The oil gets into the open pores and kinda clogs them up (sounds bad, but its a good thing). It will bring back the gloss, or at least take the dingy look out of a dust finish (its hard to tell exactly what finish that is).

Looks to me like they let their bath temp got away from them, resulting in a very big pore size on the ano layer. I'm surprised it took dye at all.

I have seen some truly hideous ano jobs saved by the motor oil trick though. Glob it on, and let it set for a while to soak in.

I would still ask for my money back, but this might save you a reano.

In fact, I would have been embarrassed to send a marker out the door looking like that.

By all means post the name of the house, so no one else walks down the same path.

please tell me who it is, so i will never have to deal with anything like that, especially considering im thinking about getting a custom anno in the near future.

Sorry, but that looks like crap. See if there's a local place that does anodizing. I took my Dark Cocker to a local guy and he did everything for $40 and had it done the next day. I've sent 12+ people to him and he's never disappointed anyone.

I went to Yahoo yellow pages, put in my city, and then searched for "anodizing". Prolly 15 or so popped up and I just chose the guy who seemed to know his ****.
