omfg well said people. RUSSIAN LEGION = god btw. and i love paintball and tournies i put expenses on paintball over everything else(probally why i have no car) and i got to the local field for practice everyweekend and i use my good old mag and i see kids there all the times with dm5's and shockers who are only like 14 or 15 who only come every once in a while and they have no skill except ROF. And i hear them all the time tell the wlakons they are tourny players and then the walkons get scared. but what im trying to say here is i hate young kids with guns in the 900+ range acting like they are pro paintballers trying to prove something to walk ons..... posers getting a life.

Notice what I said... Keying up to go into PSP... Ive played NPPL with various and sundry local and not local teams since I left high school, most of my crew has. But NPPL has WAY WAY to many restrictions and after all PSP to me seems the way to go..

Now what other series have I played in.. NSG, and NPPL

Personally sorry if I came off negative, Buuuut.. I see it all the time where I work. Local kids get together thinking there hot potatoes enter a local tourney and still think there hot potatoes... But when they show up to practice with some Nppl/PSP teams they get there butts turned inside out and whine whine whine.. thats all the ever do...

to me the local scene is dominated by the under 18 year olds.. and again TO me winning Farmer Johns 3 man Tourney means nothing to me as there is no press as ECA is also attached to east coast anarchy paintball...

And I will say GUILTY AS CHARGED! Im entering a 3 man local game just to see if I can run away with some new kit.. but again.. if you could do it you would too

To me the term recreational tournament player is adding unneeded lables. I get what you are saying, but bottom line if they play just tournaments I'd call them tournament players. Unlike me going out of town to another state to play a senerio game without letting everybody and their brother know that I play tournaments with, Now that is called closet senerio player. I'm so ashamed

              OMG NATURAL LAW

IF YOU PLAY TOURNEY YOU MUST PLAY WITH TOURNEY PLAYERS.

gimme a break will ya. I play tournies but i play rec too. Tehre isnt some retarded dogmatic law you have to follow.

I dont whup up on newbs beceause if you're mature enough, you would realize you are only inflating a false sense of ego. So play nice and fun when you want to and switch on your A game during practice and scrims.

also that is whay they call it rec, sometimes you just wanna shoot at people without the constarints of bruisingyour oh so fragile A game ego. There is no pressure in rec games. and if you do it right you should be able to have fun rec or tourney.

A few things I've observed about "tournament" teams in the past few years.

The ones who show up to play rec ball dressed in all the latest gear trying to make everybody think they are the "pros" usually turn out to be some rookie level group who either hasn't played any tournaments yet or consistently lose a high percentage of games they play at a tournament.

Some of what I think are the better tournament players in the present and past show up dressed down. I've seen a couple show up in camo with pumps. They also spend about 1/2 the day finding the youngest players around and making sure they have an enjoyable experience.

Those who wanna be try to impress the masses. Those who can just show up and play to have fun.

One other common thing I've noticed in this thread and in other places about our sport is the expense. I've always been a bit confused as to how somebody can justify spending 1K+ on equipment, yet somehow can't afford to pay the $100 for a weekend of fun. Maybe I've been spoiled since I normally play at a field that allows byop but still. I've played a few rounds of golf in the past. The expenses are about the same but the challenge isn't.

Thats not true. I can't speak for myself here, because your right, I frankly don't have the skill on the field to be able to. My spot on any team (who's players far surpass me in skill) is taken simply by attitude over skill . I get an occassional lucky break and do something remarkable, and people forget the 99 times before that that I simply failed. Anyways, I digress. I have seen people throw together teams to "take the money" and they usually do. But they are far different than the teams they normally field, and a different composition of players. Just because you do it because you can, does not mean I would do it if I could.

that does sound taht bad to me i wouldn't mind joining a team like that, I have held off getting on a team for fear of endinf up on won that has to win at the cost of not having fun, I have no problem getting rolled by a better team. but it hard to find poeple taht just want to play and could care less about winning. at the level were taking the prizes are not worth beating yourself up for. enjoy playing with you team that is the points.

Except for the Automag in front, its usually the man behind the equipment that counts.

I think that the individual's skill from d3 to d1 is not too much different. I've picked up rec players who have never played in a tournament who can smoke the crap out of some guys that I know that have been playing tournaments for years.
The good teams know how to execute a game plan, everyone sticks to their role, does their jobs and can compensate for their down players. Learning how your team's players "play" and Timing comes with experience, and I guess that is important too.
Newer teams usually don't have this type of organization, they get caught up in the chaos, the players get tunnel vision and then the team stops working together and then it's bunker time....Tournament paintball is more about teamwork than individual skill, and you can't practice teamwork without a solid team.
