Ion/Automag?

Ok, I'm not a very common attendant at this particular forum, but I thought of no better place to ask this question. I own an Automag classic with a few external upgrades and a Lvl. 10. I can't find any sort of electronic trigger frame for it, not even on ebay. So, I was flipping through an issue of PB2X and saw the Ion. A little later, I got an idea in my headand researched the Ion a little. The Ion also has a blowforward design.

So, now my question, is there any way I can modify my Automag to fit and use the electronics? Anyone have a plan of this type of mod written out so that I may use it as reference? I have a Benchmark triggerframe right now, but I want to install this mod onto a Logic vertical frame. Any idea's? Tips? Refferences? Anything? Please help me out, I think it'd be really cool accomplish this project and have a one of a kind E-Mag clone.

nope. cant do it.


the ion uses a spoolvalve design, which is not very comparitive to a blow foreward design.

also, the ion electronics and frame have no way to trip the sear on a mag.

Look into a devil mag if you truely want an electro mag or an e/x mag. If you can find a hyper frame, that is another viable option. but those are about your only options.

I've never heard of a Devil Mag. Where do I find this? Who makes it?

In order to make the mag electronic by using the electronics from another marker you would need to find an electro sear tripper (Spyder or such) and have some ability to make the frame fit. It has been done with Spyders, search (using the forum search feature up top) Spydermag.

This is probably going to sound stupid, but what's a ULT? Does the Retro X have one (I would assume so)? Also, what's so special about it? What's it do different?

The ULT reduces the trigger pull weight. Due to the relatively "weak" solenoid of the Spyder electro frames it may be necessary to have to properly make a Spyermag work (you would have to ask people who have made them). It does not come standard on any valve, but the X valve is properly drilled to accept the drop in upgrade.

Ahhh... I thought it might be the trigger mod, but I wasn't sure... Ok, well, I looked into the Devilmag thing. I think I'm going to pruchase the bolt on kit. Well, I don't know, since I have the Lvl. 10, should I get the eyes installed or not? I haven't had a ball break in over 5000 shots, but I've only been shooting in the 7-10 bps range. Once I get this fire power, I don't know how it'll act. Should I get the eye's?

P.S. - I've actually been playing for 6 years, but I'm still a noob tech-wise to anything non-blowback. I know what I'm doing on the field, but not with the tech. I apologize if my questions are getting annoying, I just don't really know what'll happen to whatever in the world.

I belive that the devil mag frame needs ULT to work. And the ULT only fits in X-valves and modifty RT valves, and some classic valves. (corect me if Im wrong.)

I think you should prolly get eyes and use lvl 7 bolt because they highly suggest that you use the lvl 7 bolt with the devilmag upgrade. Also the ult will work on all valves except the classic rt, although it isnt garrunteed to work with the 68 valve many people have done it, just put a lot of shims in.

orrrrr...you could get a hyperframe, it would probably be cheaper, and it's a killer combination with lvl10! yeah, i'm tryin to sell one, pm me if you're interested! it's got the 'new' 20bps board, and can totally rip, even with a classic valve (i have it on a Retro valve right now). but yeah, converting to Devilmag is cool too !

I don't like the way the hyperframe looks. It's very blocky and looks pretty uncomfortable. I think I'll go with the Devilmag (uber sexy and vert!), though the Spydermags do look kind of fun.... I'll have to keep it in mind for a future project...

So, a Lvl. 7, eh? Hmm... why won't it work well with the Lvl. 10? I spent a hundred dollars on it and I don't want to have to replace it, but I will sacrifice for optimum performance. When I bought the 'Mag, it came with an all metal bolt that chopped like mad (thus why I bought the Lvl. 10), it has a dip in the center to cradle a ball. Will this work? I'm not sure what the Lvl. 7 is exactly... Like I said, I'm a newb to anything technical with non-blowback, plus I can't find it at the AGD store.

Anyone possibly willing to sell (if necessary)?

Why not just buy the Ion? It seems much easier. Maybe even cheeper.

My reasons for not buying the Ion are:

1.) Not as good a warranty as AGD
2.) Not as great a following
3.) Not as large a tech community
4.) Zero mods and spiffy tricks
5.) Doesn't have as good a reputation as AGD
6.) Smart Parts' rep has been going downhill recently (the court hearings, they kind of piss me off )
7.) The Automag is simply better in my opinion, and has a much wider range of performance parts and upgrades. Automags are the best, hands down (sorry, I thought it was funny: hands down... get it? Heh... heh... not really all that funny, huh?)

I also like the community. Since starting this thread, I haven't had one insulting reply, and all replyers (?) have been a great help (sorry to sound cheesey, but it's true).

Not to mention *Karta Body*! Ooooh! So sexy! Eventually, I WILL own a blue one... eventually...

I love you guys... in a completely straight and non-sexual way... honest...
