Spyder Electra or SP Ion *SERIOUS*

    Ok

I know the Ion has made many fans since its debut but Spyders arent that bad. Many people say they are because the amount of new players that buy then (IMHO) My friend is wanting to buy a new marker and currently has a spyder imagine. Now, I have owned a spyder and have never had a problem with it in the 4 years I used it. He also has never had problems with his Imagine but he was wanting to upgrade it with the rocking trigger and ACS bolt, but we came across the Electra, which includes those 2 for $280. Seeing the rocking trigger is $170 and the ACS is $30, it wouldnt be a bad idea just to get the whole package. We think the Electra is more eye appealing also
Now, I am looking for comparisons from people who have shot both. I dont want to know if you just shot an Ion and say its the best for the buck. I want to know if you shot both and what you think are the pros/cons in relation to each other.

    Thanks

I would tell him get a mag but he wants electro and getting a mag and putting a hyperframe will get too pricey for him

    $280 for a never-legal setup? Nah. Ion.

IMO since he likes the Imagine (never had a problem with it) just get a T-board with eyes for it. Plenty fast with break beam eyes. Would probably save some money as well.

But if he has his mind set on a brand new marker between those two I think I'd go with the Ion. Also look into the Piranha EVO, comes stock with break beam eyes as well.

The rocking trigger is never legal because it has two activation points.

Yea, but I read it has a tournament lock making it legal? Correct me if I am wrong

Also, that ACS bolt eliminates the use of eyes, does it not? I mean... its like a level10 for spyders eh?

                personally, an sp ion.

                for you, an sp ion.

rocking triggers arent legal, and the ion will be more upgradeable, when you get the money.

Unfortunatly, neither level 10 (though its the best of these systems) nor the ACS bolt are as good as eyes, they never can be either. Why, you ask? They rely on the oh-crap method of ball detection, in other words they hit the ball and go "Oh crap" and pull back, or compress. Even if this just pinches the ball it will still dramatically effect the flight of that ball, and can cause the ball to leak, or even chop still. Eyes do not rely on the oh-crap method, they don't allow the bolt to move untill a ball is fully loaded.

If you have C02 and don't want to upgrade to HPA, go with the electra, otherwise the Ion hands down.

I vote t-board and eyes, but if you have to get a new gun, consider the diablo wrath. bb eyes and faster than the ion.

                      He has a HPA tank
The T-board, does that make the trigger more sensative? He wants to be able to shoot faster. I am gonna be selling him my boomer for cheap so his barrel will be nice and I just gave him a revvy so the hopper is decent. He just wants faster.

oh, it will be MUCH faster. He might start to outshoot the revvy, but thats what the eyes are for

Check out the reviews at pb review here: http://www.pbreview.com/products/rev...e=#description

A few of them are fairly in depth. If all your friend wants to do is shoot faster, it sounds like the perfect way to go. No need to spend $250+ on a new marker.

getting in cheap... T board, seen several & they work very well. The electra's tourney lock is a gray zone. Some rules read specifically that it have one trigger & switch. Between the Ion & electra I'd grab an Ion . Mine has been flawless thus far ( but I havent messed with it much).

Tboard, bb eyes, 25g tswitch, and a ramping chip ~ $100 from www.scenariodreams.com

                            With that you get:
                            uncapped board
lightest trigger pull possible (take the spring out of the frame too)
                            ramping (if you want it)
                            eyes
fully programmable dwell, eye delay, debounce, etc.

Get a nice trigger too. Like the slasher or thrasher. That's like another $22.

                              I have shot the both.

Electra.....Fast as hell. It laid serious ropes. We shot it a the Tampa expo. Thats about where it ends. The rocking trigger is not legal. At all. You can cap the speed but good luck trying to get a gun with two switches onto a regulated tourne field. Also when i shot the gut I got it to out shoot the valve twice which led to re-cocking the gun twice. You never want to re-cock your gun during a game. Also when shooting the gun we used the reballs. (which dont break) The gun has no eyes so it would be a paint blender.

Ion......Very fast, light, has the same single tube profile of a mag. Despite what others may say it does feel pretty solid in your hand. The plastic skeleton lets you dive worry free in the bunkers because if you damage it you can by another. The gun also has tourney legal ramping. So you will be able to use the ion in competitive events.

All in all it's your choice. I'd take the ion, because of the profile of the gun. A few others had mentioned the Imagine with t board. I still would take the Ion because it's pretty fast on it's own. When you begin to feel out gunned you can add the Predator board and pick up where you left off.
