05 shocker w/ nerve board or Proto?

Ok heres the thing i know nothing of shockers or matrixs? i've only owned angels but i was looking to spend about 800 and both are the same price....

the shocker looks pretty nice to me more than the Proto...
but i want you guys to help me with the pros and cons with these two markers...now i dont want to here anything like "smart parts suck, so the shocker sucks also". I dont want those kind of anti-smart parts comments....

so seriously...im clueless about these two markers...everyone here use Angels and Vikings

    thanks a lot

I have owned a dynasty shocker and 2 dm4's and 1 proto. Proto is the best of all those listed guns. It is around the same weight as the shocker was. The trigger on the dm/proto guns is the best there is imo. The proto felt much more solid then the shocker. One big thing is the anno on shockers is horrible after 2 or 3 practices places will start to wear, back of the grip frame is one of the main spots.

proto is probably my favorite spool valve marker, second to the ironman matrix

so, if your after a spooler, thats the way to go IMO

but, if, like me, you prefer ram/hammer markers, pick up a viking or ego

the proto is a better buy. better all around gun. its built better, its made to higher tolerances, its dye. they dont half arse stuff. get the proto, and you wont be dissapointed what so ever.

i have used both a proto and a "nerved" shocker I think that the Proto would be the better choice. The shocker is a gas hog compared to the proto..you can get just as good of a board for the proto...the price would also be less especially if you want a better reg than the stock smart parts shocker reg.
who cares how your marker looks...just move fast and shoot straight

              Go with the Proto.

              I have both a Proto and DM5 and i'm selling the DM5.

For me personally I like the Proto. It's smaller, lighter and more efficient. The DM5 does shoot a tad smoother but I like the Proto better.

I like the Shockers. I have two, no anno problems. Once you install a HE kit (I use the NDZ Stingers V3) you will be fine. I have a crossfire 45/45 and I do not have to run for air between each game. I have a Pred Board in my Ton Ton and a Dynasty Board in my '03 so I do not have an opinion on the nerve board. I have never owned a Proto so I have no opinion on the feel of them. On my team there are 2 shockers, 2 angels, and 3 protos. Everybody is happy with their gun but the protos seem to require more repairs and have more issues. I have used my '03 1-2 times a week since last July and all I have replaced is the vision strip (because I broke it while cleaning). I would say make a list of what you would do with each gun (trigger, drop, board, etc) and see which one is the better deal. But don't let your decision be based on the air thing because with the kit it is not an issue. Good luck buying and God Bless.

edit- oh, my stock regs are great (3-5 FPS on the '03, and I am in the process of breaking in the Ton Ton reg), the shocker is a ton lighter than the proto, and with a good barrel system ( I use a SS freak) the accuracy is amazing. And with a good trigger (NDZ Wave) the gun rips. When I come of the field I have been asked a few times in the last couple of weeks what my ramp (ramping on the boards) was set to and I had to tell them that I was not ramping. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

I have shot both Shockers and Protos - my Proto is still too new to me for me to comment on durability.

Smart Parts quality control just sucks, of the last six things I have gotten from Smart Parts (4 Shockers, and Ion, one max-flo air system) five of them have had issues straight out of the box... they are awesome once you get them up and working right though.

Both are very light (have not compared side by side but for its size the Proto is amazignly light)

                  Both have nearly no kick.

Both suck (stock) in the air effiency department... at least to a degree

Both feel pretty solid, and I have abused both in play without any issues.

The Shocker to me was more intuitive in how it worked, though I realize they are very very similar.

The Proto comes stock with an LPR.

Both stock barrels are very good

The Proto is quicker in legal modes (at least the trigger seems quicker to me), but does not come stock with ramping.

That sucks that you had that many problems right out of the box. There was a thread about that a while ago on Shockerowners.com. Sometimes the place where you order it from will use a gun before it sells and then ship it out (not saying that is what happened to you). I order from punisherspb.com. If you are a member of SO (above, its free) you get a discount on the gun and any SP upgrades. The owners name is Rich and I have not had any problems.

2 Shockers direct from SP to the shop I deal with - same with the Ion, same with the max-flo. One of these Shockers was good - the first one actually.

2 Shockers from Punishers... Punishers is a great place to deal with, the people are friendly to chat with... They are my second choice on buying things after the field I normally play at and most of my online purchases come from them.

I blame SP I'm not trying to overstate the issue... just noting its there

Well coming from someone who owns an 03 vision shocker, the proto is your best bet. Protos, are a lot smaller than they look in pictures, are well balanced, the trigger is beyond better than the shocker's, and they are better made in my opinion. With the shocker you will have cheaper metal used, a cheaper anno, a decent trigger, poor efficiency without a new bolt (unless your shocker is a mutant like mine) and overall, less of a gun. But hell, that is why I like my shocker, cause I can beat it like a redheaded stepchild.

Ill think twice about getting a shocker this is my reason:

Both are great guns, I love Shockers, but with Proto's selling now for $799, and soon to go lower, buy a Proto!

No offense in the least, but I am going to disagree. I have seen many shockers go down, some make noises that no body can figure out why, one teammate has a problem with his board randomly resets and loses all of his settings. I have never had a problem out of my proto or dm4. the weight on these guns are almost the same. accuracy is all paint & barrel. from what ive seen thru working on shockers, tolerances and some design issues are apparently not thought through very well. From what ive heard, the NDZ (not sure which version, new versions may be ok) is the worst designed HE kit for shockers.
However, the efficiency with an evolve kit is amazing, especially with the lpr from evolve. the only thing i dislike about the proto is when you take the grip frame off you have to be carefull with not pulling wires out of the soleniod, but that is common on many guns.
As for price, the protos price have dropped immensly, $684 for a black to blue dust compared to ~700 for vision shocker so price is close.
In my opinion, I dont like the shockers triggers, even with roller bearing it feels cheap. even though i can shoot it fast, its not smooth at all
