Sorry, I should have started with "in my experience". People I know love their protos and dm4's. I hate the roller trigger as well, I use the wave. I have heard bad things about previous versions of the stinger but I have it in both of my shockers with no problems and run at 165-170psi. Like I said above, both seem to be good guns and he should go with the best deal (but like above, I say Shocker).
05 shocker w/ nerve board or Proto?

When a Shocker does go down, it is usually some ham fisted goon has "done a trigger job" or something equaly stupid, as in user error. ALL guns go down at one time or another anyway, so people have to stop judging a gun just because they saw one(or even a few) go down once.Originally posted by UTDragunNo offense in the least, but I am going to disagree. I have seen many shockers go down, some make noises that no body can figure out why, one teammate has a problem with his board randomly resets and loses all of his settings. I have never had a problem out of my proto or dm4. the weight on these guns are almost the same. accuracy is all paint & barrel. from what ive seen thru working on shockers, tolerances and some design issues are apparently not thought through very well. From what ive heard, the NDZ (not sure which version, new versions may be ok) is the worst designed HE kit for shockers.
However, the efficiency with an evolve kit is amazing, especially with the lpr from evolve. the only thing i dislike about the proto is when you take the grip frame off you have to be carefull with not pulling wires out of the soleniod, but that is common on many guns.
As for price, the protos price have dropped immensly, $684 for a black to blue dust compared to ~700 for vision shocker so price is close.
In my opinion, I dont like the shockers triggers, even with roller bearing it feels cheap. even though i can shoot it fast, its not smooth at all[Something Cool is Here]Comment

Yes, all guns go down one time or another........some more frequently than others.Originally posted by WARPED1When a Shocker does go down, it is usually some ham fisted goon has "done a trigger job" or something equaly stupid, as in user error. I have seen my teammates shocker go down literally twice a day, consistenly. Now, don't get me wrong, I think the shocker is awesome marker when it's working; however, that reliability factor prevents me from buying one. Here are some of the things that go wrong with his shocker: chops paint (even with eyes, a halo, and a virtue board), feedneck has come off more than once (even after properly securing it with red loctite), eats through batteries, and some times it just refuses to work (for no reason). I must also emphasize that it chops paint consistently, and it's not because of bad paint.
I have never owned a matrix. But I have heard from many people that: as long as you follow the manual's instructions, matrixes are reliable. I would honestly go with the proto. All black ULE RT Pro:

I see shockers go down all the time, never a trigger job tho. 4 times ive seen bolt guides stripped or jammed, I witnessed two of them, it was not user error. ive seen lots of times when o-rings went bad inside the bolt. this happends to protos as well, how ever, ive only seen 1 go bad on a matrix that was regularly maintained. the only time ive ever seen a non-maintence problem on a proto was when someone crossthreaded the feedneck. I work on guns regularly. i see many people at my shop shooting both types. imo go with protoOriginally posted by WARPED1When a Shocker does go down, it is usually some ham fisted goon has "done a trigger job" or something equaly stupid, as in user error. Once I had fixed the manufacturing errors with my Shocker I was very happy with it.
I did install new, stiffer ball detents
I did install a shorter feedneck
I did set the victory board in the Halo down so it did not push as hard
Other than that they worked very well, would consistantly shoot on field, and I could put them in my bag one week, pull it out the next, and shoot with no chrono issues or other problems. That being said so far my Proto is doing that as well.
IMO both are very very good markers and very comparable to one another."Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. Its not" - Dr SuessComment
