It is never that simple. However, I still stand by "What give us the right to decide for other countries what is right?". We don't have the right to dictate the internal affairs of other countries.Originally posted by Lohman446What is right for us... Yes, we do not have the right to get rid of dictators who are murdering their people. That would be very wrong.Originally posted by hitechIt is never that simple. Also, isolationism doesn't work. In the 30's, everyone said to themselves, "well Hitler isn't my problem so I won't intervene." He became their problem pretty fast. If we just sit back and let terrorism and genocide go unpunished, we aren't exactly living up to our responsibility. If you don't like having that responsibility then move to a smaller country. America is a superpower, we don't have the luxury of sitting back and letting chaos ensue. We have a responsibility as a superpower to make sure the world isn't going to hell.
And don't freaking say, "well there are other countries experiencing genocide". Yea, well we can't get to everyone at once. We help one region at a time. Yes, Africa is in bad shape too. Well, thanks to Clinton our military doesn't have the strength to fight on 3 different fronts. Middle East, Africa, and Asia.Comment

I see, it is up to US to decide what is right and wrong.

As harsh as it may seem yes - it is up for us to decide what is right and wrong, based on what our best interests are. It sounded harsh the first time, it still does... but I think its reality"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. Its not" - Dr SuessComment

Better us than the terrorists and dictators. You are too naive to think that the perfect world exists where people see eye to eye. No, America isn't perfect. But we're the lesser of two evils. Either have an unregulated world where there is no punishment or consequence for genocide and persecution, or have the system we have now. It's not a perfect system, but it's better than the first choice. I think everyone can agree on that. Well, except for dictator sickos.Comment

I still dont see an answer to my question... how are my (or anyone else in the US, for that matter) rights being protected by the war?Comment

The right not to have a WMD used against one of our cities? I don't beleive we went in because of Saddam - right or wrong he was a "reasonable" person at least in regards to attacking us. I beleive his eldest son, Udai (sp?) though we had serious doubts about and were concerned that he would risk an entire nation on some holy crusade to hurt us. You have to remember the intelligence we went in on, right or wrong, was that Saddam had WMDs and a desire to see them used against us. I'm not defending the accuracy of that satement (though I still beleive Iraq HAD WMDs) but only pointing out why we did it. I don't especially agree with this "hearts and minds" democratization of Iraq and think that we are stirring serious problems there, in Syria, Saudi, and Iran with what we are trying to do. Granted we can't just leave, but I do not beleive whatever government we set up lasts for more than 50-100 years and very likely much less.Originally posted by sladebecause we're always right(TM).
