    Redefining AGD

Could AGD be on top? I think it's much too late for that. Could AGD improve, progress, diversify, and go forward - I firmly believe so.

What helped redefine Apple? It wasn't some new Macintosh... it was the iPod. It was cool... the kids loved it... you didn't have to own other Apple products to enjoy it. People forgot about the "Macs suck" stuff. And... I think the iPod renewed interest in Apple's other products... increased customer awareness of the Apple company.

Why not take the 3M approach... make other products better? I should be able to buy a Matrix or something... and be able to put some AGD upgrade part on it. You don't have to make something complicated... look where some of the companies are now that started off selling threaded metal tubes.

What is AGD very good at?
    1. Customer Service
    2. Quality Parts
    3. Innovation
    4. No nonsense approach

    What does AGD suck at?
    1. Marketing
    2. Bending to accomodate changing times
    3. General stubbornness

What does AGD have going for it?
    1. Tom Kaye
    2. Loyal following
    3. A long history in paintball
    4. A unique forum - very good information distribution and marketing tool

Now, I know TK is "retired." But it's of my belief that you can't kick a girl out of bed that you've been with a long time... without sometimes thinking to yourself, "Damn... I miss that thing she used to do for me."

Let's look at this online retailer that seems to be doing well:
Award-winning Home Theater Surround Sound Systems, made in Canada. Call us at 1-888-352-9466 to get free advice on the best home theater speakers for your home.

First thing they do... toot their own horn. Reviews for products are readily available, including positive customer feedback. I bought about $1.5k worth of Axiom stuff because of the easily accessible information overload on their products... and what I received is exactly what I was expecting... quite content.

How about in comparision with this site:

What about that site would attract a new customer? What's the target audience? IMO... it is appropriate for people who already know what your products are and what you are about. Why isn't Tom Kaye's mug on there somewhere... something noting AGD's history... philosophy... and general awesomeness?

I think it needs to be made such that... someone who knows absolutely nothing about AGD... or maybe even paintball... would be attracted to your products - it fails to do that.

Simple... cheap or free things can be done to improve AGD... although perhaps in minor ways... it's a start. Get the basics right at least - I don't think this is happening.

Believe me, I get your point, and you make a very good point indeed, Brian, but...
I just dont see any of that happening, ever.
Call me a non believer, but I lost faith in ANY of that happening a while ago.

Me too. I just think about it sometimes. TK's got a life outside of paintball... and other interests.

But wouldn't this "what if" be cool?

I think it's entirely possible. And if you cared enough to spend 20 minutes looking at what the paintball community whines for, and satisfied it they could have the "paintball - ipod"...

Not like the warpfeed, because you can put it on any marker(with some time) but no one wants it..

                  i like the metaphor.

but yea, i do think that AGD could end up on to or close to it, atleast get back into the higher scheme of things.

I was just pointing it out that there isn't one. It leaves a huge hole that AGD could fill.

great thought5 miscue. I can just see a hundred happy customers posting here and else where about a new AGD part for a trix, or gasp a Ion. I mean mag owners have been known to move on but not lose any love for AGD, they just want something else.

Great idea, the unfortunate side is i think AGD is allowing itself to go spinning down the crapper.

come on guys, YOU NEED some new product. Hell make a new stinkin barrel condom or something. Without any new products for customers to get excited about your existing line feels dead.
Tom was the last of a now extinct breed, a breed of players who build a community, a breed of owners who gave to the sport never taking more than what they deserved. I hope to see you at the feild again some day....

They would just have to get around the numerous patents that are held by various large corporations.

I understand what your saying but ask yourself "Is AGD lissening to AO when we say if they do this they'll be better?" I honnestly thing what AGD does in the future is up to AGD not numoris AO rants

I get what your saying. I loved the AGD museum a lot, but where did that go??
                            http://www.airgun.com/museum/

I also think those old pictures of the mag holding up the car would be cool to have on the site, and stuff like the xmag line up.. etc.

And how about like stats for all the weights and stuff for things? I like how it shows the weight and length of the warpfeed on the index of the site, thats very informal.

Yep. We listed "Innovation" under what AGD is good at. I'm sure if they would put their heads together, they could come up with something.
