AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.
i am saying that if there were rt-pros, paradigms, etc on say action village with all these great upgrades on the same site would be huge. there are no mags on many of the major online paintball stores, only old mags at many local shops...many people dont even know that there is now ule bodies and rails, level 10, etc. many people only think that the only mag is a classic mag and the old e-mags.
I understand you train of thought, but I think that Mags are well past that point in their lives.
The Automag can only survive as a cult status/niche marker now.

there is one noticable differance between Tippmann and AGD. I got the new PB2X mag yesterday and Tippmann is every few pages. I saw 1 pic of a pump mag on page 32, which was exiting to me cuz I knew what it was but nothing pointed it out so no-one would be the wiser. and there were no pics or mentions of mags in last months issues.
my thing to pop up the sales and get some recognition is get the word out and market something, anything. the nitch would come if someone know what it was. I could think of hundreds of ways to put something deep on a page to get to people, right now there is nothing. and It dosn't need to be somehting big and extravigant liek something from Empir3 or Bob Long. I can't tell you the amount of people, teens/young adults and sometimes adults, that have somehow accuired a mag and didn't know about AO or Logic, Tuna, Rouge and all them. they were beside them selves!
and the reason I say market twards teens and have all the stuff like eye's, barrel kits, eletro what-cha-ma-shoot-it is the negitive PR that comes with the youngens that have no brain that bash it cause it is not the fad.
but either or,
the secnario/woods/rec is an up and coming big market and there are more and more products being put out for them. jump on it! market the fact that mag is the most reliable over their pressius A-5's and shoot 20times better asnd half the wieght. another thing to look into is shells for the mil/sim goo-ruu that will give him insta-wood and creaming all over himself to get it. and not the half job that SpecOps did with the long bow. don't get me wrong it is nice but it is not complete. look what SmartParts did with the ION...
if anything, it wouldn't hurt Rouge or anyone to put out their own marketing ploy to get attention and in turn get mags out there while boosting their own sales on stuff, because you can't get a sweet body and rail and trigger and trigger frame without a mag to begin with? can you?

Ummm.....What?
The scenario/woods/rec ball market is not up and coming--it's been around since the beginning. How do you think paintball got started? That is one aspect of the game, I feel, that will never be lost. As long as there are new players, there will alwasy be woods/rec/scenario ball.
AGD is past it's prime on a lot of things. Advertising costs money, and frankly, why would you advertise when you have no new products to push? It doesn't make any business sense.

Bingo! I walk into my pro-shop who I have know for years, who shot mags, evey one of them shot mags and moded them and the whole 9 yards, I walk in there now and the guys are like "whats that? A high dollar door stop." and they don't even remamber how they work or how to work on them! and I looked and they are still listed as a dealer for AirGun! every person I talk to is like that and under the notion that they are folding. if evrey one is under the impression that they are not going to be around much longer, why would they buy a new mag?
and I know woods/secnario has been around a long time and started the sport, was I was refering to is the "new wave" of woods. untill just recently has there ever been a push to marlet to the woods/secnario players and teams. aside from the AT series not one marker was ever prodused for the mil/sim guy tromping threw the woods. now you have tippmann, ariakon, armotech, septor, specops kits, proteam kits, smartparts is on the run with the SP-8 and DYE is making martixes and gear for woods. it is the "new wave" or "second leg" for woods/secnario.
if done right, a simple single "black and while" type of advertisment will go a long way. if you do something and it strikes a chord, it will create a buzz/hype and people will talk and it can start a snowball effect. and even though you arn't putting something new out, you can still buzz the fact you are still here and fixing to make a comeback or fixing to do something or just all out bashing someone else with things that were always there and bring them into the light.
Sam, I see your point. If AGD were to advertise, even just for half of the magazines half of the year, then at least they would be getting their name out. If their name is out there, then there are a ton of players who've never even heard of AGD that just might check them out; henceforth, being good for business.
However, I can also understand AGD's not necessarily wanting to take that kind of gamble. Right now they are pretty much spreading through the proverbial "word of mouth"--mostly by the fine people who frequent AO.
Most of the paintball community already feels that AGD is dead and gone...why try to change their minds if you aren't trying to re-invent yourself?

Tippmann is also a niche market. There are huge with scenario/woodsballer/rec ball players.
AGD has quite a loyal following also. How many people on this forum own a mag or three? How many don't? Those that don't own Mags, have to know by now that they are not the blending dinosaurs that every other forum says they are. Sure, the technology is old, but who cares--it works! Does anyone mention how old the Autococker's technology is? Why not? Cockers aren't running on any new innovative technology. Sure, they added electronic capabilities, but so did AGD. Also, AGD has been far more instrumental in implementing fundamental changes and technology for paintball (HPA, first anti-chop bolt, etc.)
People need to stop worrying about how to bring AGD "back to life". Look around you...
AGD is NOT DEAD!
Cockers do have the new mq valve tho, that is supposed to upgrade it back to the level of the DMs and angels. I do have to say this, mags are up at the top of the ranks as of CoolHands new Ultimate Electro Frame for Mags, but its now a battle of how much ppl wanna pay to get their mag back into tourneys and what not
All of these things are true to some degree or another. But consider this one. AGD made a gun that is so well built that 10 years later people still use them. While many people go the upgrade path (IE: ULE bodies, grip frames, ect) after they are done they still have the same basic gun just with new bells and whistles.
If Ford and Chevy built cars that lasted well past 100,000 miles, would anyone really buy a new car every 3 years? What year did the emag come out? I think it was around 1998. 7 years later they are still in use and still can be used competetively with a few upgrades. The Angel LCD came out a little before the emag. How many of those do you still see around? Is there such a devoted group of people to that gun as there is the mag?
If AGD does anything substantial they will probably piss a lot of people off to be successful. It would be good business sence to make it as little compatible with their old stuff. Look at what WDP did to the Angel g7 and 06 Speed. They modified the barrel threads slightly, meaning that if you want a barrel to fit correctly on their gun you need to buy new ones. To hell with the group of loyal customers who probably already own several angels and a gear bag full of the old threaded barrels.
It sucks to be them, but it will mean that more barrels are sold. When AGD released the emag, it used the same barrel as every other mag out to that point. When they made the cocker threaded ULE bodies, they made them fit just about every AGD product.
Good for us, bad for making money.
If they made a newer emag with a ULE body that ONLY fit that particular gun. people would have went out and bought the new gun. See my point?
If Ford and Chevy built cars that lasted well past 100,000 miles, would anyone really buy a new car every 3 years?
They do, and people do. However you are comparing a worldwide market with only 11 global companies (may have changed slightly on numbers due to mergers) supplying a basic need to some of the world with a niche driven fringe sport. You have a point when comparing within the market, or to other fringe markets. Which would you depend on: a ten year old SS classic mag or an Angel from the same era? Which is more competetive in today's market?
"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. Its not" - Dr Suess
I always thought AGD should take the impressive engineering talent available to them and begin designing parts for other markers, but then Tom retired.
AGD needs a $400 electro marker to compete, unfortunately they can't do that, for legal reasons and because they are stuck with the design which has lasted this long.
Sadly I think that design is their swan song. Heck their last innovation was a body with some rails on it....thats not much of an innovation. They've been boxed in by patents and potential litigation, they need to start all over again, perhaps with a merger (Just imagine):
Cocker-Mag's: cockers without timing issues, and mag's with custom milled bodies
You see; all computers are programmed with only two digits for the year (i.e. 99 being now). However, the year is actually four digits (i.e. 1999).
I note, with considerable unease, that the Canadian defence department is drawing up plans to take over hospitals, police and fire services and hydro stations under some form of martial law when the Millennium Bug (a.k.a. the Y2K software problem) hits.
This is unnerving, like suddenly noticing guys unobtrusively hauling sandbags into position while uttering soothing words about there being no chance of a flood. Perish the thought.
I suppose, as a neo-Luddite (for lack of any other party affiliation), I should welcome Y2K as a chance for the environment to grab a breather while the global industrial machine logs off. With the refineries, nukes, factories and chemical plants shutting down and the nitrogen oxide-spewing jetliners grounded, maybe even entire fishing fleets thrown off course by wonky SatNavs, you can just see Mother Earth heaving a sigh.
Let's just hope some military computer doesn't flash back to Cold War programming and order a launch.
What we're talking about with Y2K isn't just the daunting prospect of our life support system-sustaining computers crashing. Some of them will go mad.
Like, you might very well open the mail on Jan. 31, 2000, to find a phone bill for $683,547,166.15. A month later, the phone company's wacko computer decides to cancel everyone's service for non-payment.
In other words, it's not just a matter of what happens at the stroke of midnight that we need to worry about. As Edward and Jennifer Yourdon write in their ultra-paranoid computer-breakdown "action guide," titled Time Bomb 2000, the fallout from Y2K could take up to a decade to work its way through the entire system.
While it is very likely that suddenly, after midnight, Dec. 31, 1999, everything will simply stop working, some things might not be working properly again for a long time to come.
Help me stop this menace by stating that AGD needs to spend more money on advertising.
If we just spent more on advertising!
God....I guess I was probably returning videotapes.
As for advertising, that was my point with just getting mags back onto shelves at some major online stores would be more advertising than is going on now. just get the info out that the mag isnot the mag they used 10 years ago, or the mag that old guy on the field has haf sitting in his bag forever. if they advertised the rt-pro, paradigm as a whole brand new mag no one would probably know the diffeence

mags are not pretty/shiny/lightweight/hyped enough for tourney ball.
mags are not as cheap as, or have a ton of aftermarket parts, for woodsballers/rec/scenario. Not to mention there is a price difference between a tac one and tippmann.
