True enough, but what I think really sets this one apart from all the other CF barrels out there, is that this one allows you to use a full 6" control bore.

The Stiffi uses a teeny tiny bore insert (like 1.5" IIRC), and all the others I've seen do too (since the CCM kit is basically a Site knock-off, it uses the same insert geometry).

This is a step up for CF barrel users, that is for sure. AND, that price is very hard to beat with a similar product.

If there was a thumbs up smiley I'd use it right now.

1 question: Will SP sue because it uses the Freak back? I'm sure they've got something in their patents, trademarks, trade dress, and trade design papers that could make things sticky.

it doesnt use the back it uses the inserts ..

and the thing they were about was the window that would show the size of the insert ..

like the first run of the sm1 barrel kit

But did the SM1 use Freak inserts? My understanding is that they don't. The window thing was the only similarity that they had left that was actionable.

Doubt you'd get away with making and selling non-SP Freek inserts, don't see how a non-SP system that uses Freak inserts is any different.

                    Doesn't work that way.

It's just like GM can't sue me for making spindles that use their hubs. I'm not making their hubs, I just made my new (not copied) spindles to fit existing parts.

                    Cross compatibility is not actionable.

Plus, there are already about a dozen little builders making honest to god freak backs, and they haven't gotten sued or been issued any C&D's.

                    I'd say DW is fine.

because all it is is a barrel with a rear section milled to dimensions that a SP freak insert can fit into. i dont think SP has a patent on certain dimension barrels (that would be sorta absurd), or on barrel kits (considering they didnt make them first... oh wait... *cough* electronic markers *cough*). theres no law against compatability. could microsoft sue any company that created a program to run on windows? not that theyd WANT to if they could, but im fairly confidant that they cannot anyway.

Righto. A window through the outter sleeve to see which inner sleeve you have inside is what SP has protected.

Thanks for the compliments on the barrels. They are starting to fly out the door.

                            Look at the pictures.

The insert slides all the way into the back of the barrel.

No adapters (that I can see), and no other parts.
