Freak Barrel Kit Vs. Evil Pipe Barrel Kit

A local paintball store is selling both the freak and the evil pipe at reasonable prices... I can't let these pass me by so I must know how you all feel about both these kits...

evil is nice and pretty, and has inserts
freak is ugly, and has inserts

pipe kits make weird sounds and make some markers (notably a cocker, angel, and pirahna) quite loud and distinctive (like a loud pop)

freak kits also have a distinctive sound which sound likes the lazer rifles from star wars on some guns (my dm and a shocker)

basically the same thing, go with what is cheaper or looks better on your gun.

      Go with what is cheaper.

And I would recommend, if you can get them as cheap or cheaper, Redz Pepper Stickz. Two piece design. I've had nothing but quality from it. The only things I don't like are the sizes (.687 is the smallest) and the tips (14 inch and 16 inch. I would have liked a 12 inch option)

and once I see them, I make sweet, sweet love...

If the Pipe Kit has the new tip, then go for the Pipe Kit. It generally looks good on all markers also.

from my experience with evil and SP barrels, id say go with the pipe. I used the stock barrel of an omen on my old cocker when i had a teardrop sitting there, available for use. The stock barrel on the omen was SO accurate. I'm pretty sure they didnt put as much effort into making it than they did the driver or pipe. Ive used progressives, teardrops, all americans, and freaks...ive never had a great experience with a SP barrel. My J&J ceramic outshoots the all american, hands down.

              go with the pipe
              plus they look sexy

you need to look at each and see what you like more...and also i have a freak and it is great. i dont know about the new pipe tip, but the old one had a rather thin barrel tip which sometimes bends or snaps when you core sample....(and don't tell me that you never core sample, unless you dont play speedball).....do you know what core sample is?

I've owned both at one time, and the Freak is what I kept.

The pipe I had, while looking good, shot poorly. It broke paint with the same size bore that the Freak would shoot just fine, so I always had to bump up at least one size, but most often two sizes. The backs were not finished very well, and the ano was VERY thin on the set I had. The bores were not very well honed either, IMO (which is likely why it broke paint when you squeezed the size down to fit).

It just felt chinsey, and the porting in the tip of mine broke through (like paper perfs). That didn't really hurt anything, but it did irritate me, a fact which was only mitigated by the really neat sound it started to make after that happened.

All in all, I like my Freak. I use it on basically every marker I have, and have yet to encounter any trouble (except that one time when I left the insert out ). I also have the SS bore set, which makes zero difference over alum, except lasting longer in dirty environments.

Personally, I'd go with the freak. I have seen so many Evil products that were hit and miss, either perfect, or total piles. I'd rather not take the chance of getting the pile (which my Pipe certainly was).

i say between the two, freak. ALthough I dont care for freak barrels. if you have another choice, go w/ a JJ edge kit, CP 2 piece w/ multiple backs, lucky 15, or something like that. Those kits are all better than the two you mentioned in my experience. The freak also has too many inserts and many will never be used.

I have owned a freak kit for years. I like the fact that you can keep your tips and inserts and just buy a back for your new gun whoring experiance....much cheaper than buying a whole set of backs.

also, the pipe kit used to have issue with the porting on the kit cracking. I actually had a small crack form on the end of my front that eventually led to the destruction of it. I got it replaced and sold teh kit, so I do not know if the new front was imporved or not. My teamate had the same issue, he sold his.

                          Pipe Kit

I currently have an Evil Pipe kit and I love it. I have used it on a Cocker, Wrath and an A5 and had no problems whatsoever. The anno is great and the finish on the inside is incredible. Just my two cents, but I love my Evil Pipe kit!!

i love my pipe. It is very nice, never have to worry about the back getting dinged up and breaking cuz they are not cheap thin inserts like the freaks. I hated the freak.

I'm quoting because this is exactly what I was planning to say.

I've got a evil pipe (non kit) barrel which I like but because of the reasons above I wouldn't go for the kit.
