I'd look around for something else. I don't like either of them; they both suffer from QC problems.

Scepter, J&J, CP, Empire kits are all good choices.

I own both and i'd have to say pipe if it has the new tip. The stock one is pretty thin and if you take a bad dive you could bend it.

if the pipe dosnt have the new tip go with the freak. Inserts are pretty thin, but i abuse my equipment on the field not off it... i've never bent one in the 5 years i've owned the freak kit.

Personally I own a Freak, personally I don't like it, however it does what it's supposed to do.

My entire objective when I buy gear is to buy/bring as little as possible which will service most of the gear I have so if I need to change guns or something all I have to pack along is another gun, not another gun and all the accessories that go with it. If I can get away with having 3 guns with me that use the same barrels, tools, lubricants, etc. then that's what I'm going to go for.

Bang for your buck, Freak's hard to beat for people who own or plan to own multiple guns with different threads. If you plan to have only one type of threading on your guns, get something else. Personally I'd rather have a set of one-piece barrels over a multi-piece kit.

Best advise, since both kits are pricey, look at how much "use" you'll be able to get out of either kit independantly. Then look at what you could get if you got something else but would still be considered a "kit" for the price and what you personally hope to do with the kit.

And if your curious, I don't like how much "junk" the Freak kit carries with it. That isn't just physical bulk, but also the psychological junk that a Freak inevitably wields. I've known people who swore up and down that being able to match their paint exactly has improved their game. I'm unconvinced that the Freak's ability to micromanage bore sizing is a benefit and I tend to see it as more of a pitfall and haven't personally been able to see the "huge difference" that matching my paint exactly vs. loosely is supposed to yield. Granted, my "tests" were impromptu and there's hardly anything controlled about them, just on a given day with the same batch of paint and changing inserts every 10 shots or so I didn't really see a remarkable improvement between what people claimed what a "perfect" match with a few balls vs. what I considered to be a "good'nuff" match and anywhere inbetween.

I've been called a fool, and people have praised their Freaks for making their guns shoot darts and everything else being so much manure. Obviously I'm missing something here, but hey, if fairies can make my Autococker shoot farther with a flater trajectory, why can't a barrel drastically improve accuracy with perfect paint matching?

I also see the kit itself as a liability since the inserts more or less float inside the barrel I see the possibility that the inserts won't center propperly and so have a negative effect on accuracy through the complicated interactions of gelatin capsule and inner barrel surface. Perhaps I don't trust "new fangled" technology, maybe I'm just a sucker for one-piece barrels.

I LOVE this kit and wish I had it for all my guns (I've got one set). It does suffer the same problem the Pipe kit has though. You need to buy a whole new set of backs for each thread type.

That'd be 4 sets for me. A BIG investment over 4 different backs using the same set of inserts and fronts.

The Pipes are nice and I ike them better, but they're honestly not much of an advantage over the Freak. Neither is going to improve your accuracy much unless you have a seriously terrible barrel now. Nowadays, stock barrels really aren't all that bad and can be just as accurate as anything else. The only reason to need a bore-sizable barrel or kit is to manage air efficiency. If the barrel's straight, the ball will go straight. Bore size (unless it's dramatically too large) affects trajectory very little.

                  Pipes:
                  *smoother finish
                  *cosmetically more attractive (opinion)
*it's not SP (some people care)
*fewer parts/easier to use/less to carry

                  Freak:
*more bore sizes in smaller increments
*inserts fit in any back/barrel - very versatile
*easier to find a match-anodized barrel if you have a marker that isn't black or silver
                  *larger resale market
                  Before: "You're playing with WHAT?"
After: "Crap! It's that guy with the pump!"

Dont forget that the freak you can do a lot more to customize it so as not to look llike anyone else's. YOU can get a differing tip not just from SP, there it the stubby tip, carbon fiber tips, etc. Plus it is very easy to make the kit fit any gun you own, all you need is to fit the back to the threading, cocker, angels, etc. The Freak is the most veratile kit out there on the market. But then again it is basically all up the consumer to which it is for him or not.

i own a freak and have used it for years and continue to swear by it. you can get a dye boom box or any barrel carrying device so you dont lug around so much with that big *** case. the evil pipe has poor anno quality and are easy to bend. dont go empire. if you do a search you will find pics of one snaping in half. freaks are also good because they go all the way up to 695. if your playing on a hot summer day you will need to bore size up and if your paint is already a little big than your going to need a really big barrel.

Go with the new deadly wind carbon fiber barrel and then get some freak inserts.
