What are the best shoes for paintballing . . .

So I tried this at PBN, but the kiddies just weren't listening. Or maybe I'm a cranky old man

I play rec ball. this means, to me anyway, I play everthing. I go into the woods. I play woodsy speedball fields, and on occasion I hop on over to the Xball field and get my hat handed to me

So whats the best shoe for me? I've been using my old running shoes lately, but they ain't cutting it. Needs to be mud resistant.

I've had one recommendation of a good pair of hiking boots. Don't know anything about them. Can you run in them?

Other than that, I'm thinking a pair of baseball hi-tops. Get some cleats, yet I get ankle support.

    What works best for ya'll?

I've heard lots of people talk about playing pump, maybe they mean playing in pumps?

Sort of like one big cleat?

    Good luck.

i wear hiking/combat boots, and play a woodsyspeedball too. I have thought about wearing my baseball cleats out there....i'll have to try them this weekend. Sounds like that would make the most sense for you, if you can get a nice comfy pair....just don't get the nice white ones.

I don't ever play woodsball, so I can't really help you there.

For recball, I use a nice pair of football cleats.
The very existence of flamethrowers proves that sometime, somewhere, someone said to themselves. 'You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

comfortable boots, cheap and durable =) i believe sportmart has some cheap hiking boots for $20. you can run with them fine (it's not like you need to do an all out sprint in the woods)

Assuming you are all outdoors, either cleats from Diggers, DYE ATCs (not as good for REAL mud) or el cheapo soccer cleats.

I've used all these plus boots and plain old sneakers.

OK, since you want a real answer, I use Wolverine brand boots, "Antelope" is the model but basically it's a gore-tex 9" camo sneaker. Get something used for turkey hunters who have to travel light and chase their prey all day. Don't get big clunkers.

Midhigh top cleats work really well. They aren't super comfy for playing in the woods though. For full on all terrain footwear I like Merrell's ultralight hikers. Addidas and Nike make similar shoes. Think a midhigh crosstrainer with beefy tread and earth tone colors. Hope that helps.

i wear a pair of merrell hiking boot. i wear the medium cut version. its higher than a running shoe, but lower than normal boots. the pair i have i wore on a 100+mile hiking trip in NM in summer of 2k3 and ive played with them since. they have great traction, are waterproof, and ive noticed i always have equal or better traction than those guys that buy paintball shoes such as ATC's or that have cleats.

checking prices online, theyll run you from around $90-$130 but they will last a long time, ive also been wearing them as my work shoes for the same amount of time. they are starting to wear out now, so i may be getting new one's soon. but they lasted about 3 years with playing twice to 4 or 5 times a month, plus working, and hiking.

I always used and I always use leather boots with steel caps. They are tough and they last. I'm used to wear them as I was working with them and going at school with them.

Football spikes would prolly be your best bet.

They will grip the ground good, durable, and they have ankle support
