outside in the warm the football cheats are supreme. Combat boots are made for all terain, from street, dirt, sand, mud, and snow. football cheats have that adgressive tread that you need for the outside. though combat's will get you that massive ankle support that you'd need. I use them cause a. I'm use to them. and b. mine are very broken in that they feel like tennis shoes.

When I play indoor or outdoor speedball, I wear an old pair of adidas samba indoor soccer shoes and they work great. They have enough grip for even the muddiest days and don't hang up or hurt your feet like some cleats too. Plus, there cheap to replace. For woods I usually just use an old pair of work boots or old pair of hiking boots.Comment

Bates Ultra Lite Stealth-lineOriginally posted by slatemanSo I tried this at PBN, but the kiddies just weren't listening. Or maybe I'm a cranky old man
I play rec ball. this means, to me anyway, I play everthing. I go into the woods. I play woodsy speedball fields, and on occasion I hop on over to the Xball field and get my hat handed to me
So whats the best shoe for me? I've been using my old running shoes lately, but they ain't cutting it. Needs to be mud resistant.
I've had one recommendation of a good pair of hiking boots. Don't know anything about them. Can you run in them?
Other than that, I'm thinking a pair of baseball hi-tops. Get some cleats, yet I get ankle support.
What works best for ya'll?
the best ever IMO. I can prase them enough!
I ware them every day and they have lasted me almost a year, threw paintball, drills, and weddings
mud, rain, sleet and soon snow. and they weigh less then most tennis shoes!!! oil and slip resistent, and they mean that! I stepped in motor oil at a race track and I didn't iceskate! and like I said I play in them on the field, was at an indoor field with a plastic like astroturf, and paintballs and that are real slick, I know cause I slid half way accross the field way past my bunker I was aiming for, and I had no problem on my feet.
well worth the money, very flexable, very durible, way beeter then any Nike!
but just a warning, I ware a 12w shoe, I have to get the 11 1/2 or 12 Bates boot! my brother wares a 14 shoe, he has to get the 13 Bates boot! I know most all Army/Navy surplus store carry them so might want to try some on first.Comment

My old Merrel sneakers, I just cycle in and out, buy a new pair and the old pair becomes paintball equipment, comfortable, light, and very durable, not water proof, but then again nothing really is.Comment

For a gerneral day of rec or tournament play (outdoors) I wear/wore football cheats. They can be found cheap and they do the job well.
For a scenario day I wear combat boots because I'll probably be climbing over logs, running on rock, and getting into the mud/water. Cleats slip on logs, rock, etc and they aren't generally waterproof."Relax. Don't worry. Have a Home Brew."

I play Woodsball every weekend, and I all I've ever used was a pair of my hiking sneakers. They only reach go up to your ankle allowing a good portion of mobility, but also has a nice tread so that I can run through swamp and grass without worry of slipping. Go to your local footwear store and look at some of the past years merchandise, I currently use Nike ACG (All Condition Gear) and have had no problems.Comment

My baseball cleats work great when I play xball. They also hold up just fine when I play woods in them.Comment

Are they expensive? Hell yes. Are they worth it? I suppose that's a matter of opinion. I love these things. They're not ultra-tall look-at-me-I'm-GIJOE, but they give amazing ankle support. They have a great tread that has served me well in crappy terrain. They also fit great and feel extremely comfortable.
I'd suggest a pair of low-rise boots similar to them. I use them in my career, and I use them on the woodsball field. Obviously if you don't like the fact that something costing that much money is going to be caked in mud, adjust accordingly.Comment

I wear Magnum boots. They're incredible.
It amazes me that a lot of people spend all kinds of money on their gear trying to eek out that next ball per second but that they neglect their feet. A good pair of boots costs less than a good case of paint, will last you much longer and will actually improve your game. Before: "You're playing with WHAT?"
After: "Crap! It's that guy with the pump!"Comment

i dont see any need to be fancy...i just want to be comfortable and dry.
so, i wear my work boots. I get em through bass pro shops online site for just over 90 bucks and they last me at least a year of everyday use. They are goretex so waterproof, cambrelle lining to wick away moisture and thinsulate to keep warm in the cold. rugged cordura uppers.
anyways, not necessarily saying you need to go out and buy them, but I think its a great setup for pretty darn cheap...so if anyone likes the sound of that for the price, you now know where to get em....brand is RedHead, BoneDry.
oh, and they have really good traction and are oil slip resistant =pComment

I have different needs when I am playing different types of game.
I generally use my old sneakers on the "speedball" field. They allow the ankle movement I need for that type of play, and unless its been very wet I have no traction problems.
For the woods I prefer a good set of boots. I like Doc Martins the best. Very comfortable, great traction. I generally don't get in the water, and mud isn't a problem for most full leather boots.Comment
