    Pump "newbie" recommendations?

After 7 years, im looking for something new

I've checked out the fields where ill be going to college next year, in Rochester (RIT) and noticed that some people used pumps.

Ive only really used 1 type of pump, and that was 7 years ago, tippmann SL-II. At shatnerball, i forgot which company was there, but i picked up one of their pumps, and it was amazingly smooth.

So, there it is, im going to be selling my airsoft stuff any misc. paintball stuff. I was hoping to spend around $100-$150, hopefully not $200.

I think THE most important thing im looking for is smoothness of the pump.

All of you pump guys, whatcha suggest?

Depemds on what kind of pump game you want to play. To me it sounds like you just want to go with a standard open class pump gun like a SL-II, Maverick, or maybe even a standard feed phantom. As far as smoothness, the smoothest guns are out of your price range.. (Carter, Sniper II, Etc) The Phantom however is just as smooth in standard or VSC variants. You might look for a Sterling. They are supposed to be very smooth, but don't cost quite as much as the others.

I reccomend a Phantom. You can also find a nice Sniper 2 for less than $200. Test drive before you buy...

Well, you know the game so that makes it a lot easier... I use a Phantom and love it; it's light weight, reliable, and can be configured into just about any setup imaginable - stock class, direct feed, or even warp; 12 gram/bulk CO2/hpa. You may be able to find a used Phantom for your price specified, or perhaps a sniper II (pump-cocker). The old tracers and mavericks are reliable and tough, but parts and service are something to be desired... I'd recommend a Phantom. Try the Phantom Owners Group; look around, join, ask questions, the people there are great and helpful; the search feature works well, too: http://www.bunkerboyz.com/phog/
Here's mine, with one of many setups - it's light, compact, and totally effective.

Sweet! A phantom with a warp. That I gotta see! And I thought a Karnivore pump was overkill...
Have you checked out the Tippmann C3 propane pumper yet? It's really cheap, but has a pretty long pump action. If it's smoothness you're lookin' for, check out the CCM SS-25. It's butta.

Then I say if you can track down an AM Illusion to get that. That or a Sterling.

              mmm smooth as butter.

I have a Sniper 2 I am looking to sell. has all the stock stuff aznd I have 2 barrels, 2 trigger frames, and 2 bolts going with it. I play with it every now and then, but I need to pay bills and all that good stuff. but if you try one out and like it give me a holler. I am asking $300 for every thing. this is what I chose when in the situation you are in and loved every moment of it and would do it again.

Rochester is in Upstate NY correct?

I'm a pump whore . There I admitted it. Best bang for your money in my opinion is as follows.

Phantom equals great quality ,easy change over fron SC to standard reasonable price easy to maintain. Mike has great customer service.

CCM = VERY smooth pump great quality. SS25 is interchangable.

Palmers sheridan based great performers but spendy!!!

Sniper II decent performer not as smooth as a CCM.

Maverick, hornet, traccer. Very solid entry level pump good performer under $100. ACI seems to be in limbo after joining with racegun. So future is uncertain.

SLII sorry guys these things usually have a horrid pump stroke, but can be found cheap.

Carter just not worth the money when compared to the performance that you get, its equal to a phantom just more bling.

Sterling equal (maybe better) to the CCM for pump stroke but a real pain to get parts , I love em but you dont want it to break down.

If you want the smotthness i would go with a sterling, then a sniper(pref. a series 5 pump), then a phantom(not as smooth as the others

Well, I was, but they're only around $185 or so if you look hard. Retail is like $230.

if you want a cheap, yet nice pump to try out give me a holler.

its a Maverick in exelent shape. i'm having a hard time imagining a pump stroke that is smoother. its about as short as a stroke can get, and amazingly light and smoothe. i only wish my phantom had a similar stroke; and my phantoms stroke is great!

The proshop at the field I work at has the original Kingman Hammers. We have 3, two on the wall and one NIB. They are asking 79 each for the two on the wall and 89 for the NIB one but I ~might~ be able to get you a better deal on one.

My Sterling. 2nd gen, custom dual pump arms. I love it, but they aren't as easy to find parts for as other markers. Also consider CCM built Snipers and Phantoms.
