    Some SP ION ??'s

I was going to build a totally hyper-mag. But have decided to sell the hyperframe and [\scary music] get an ion.

    A feww ??'s first:

can the ion ramp at the 17bps or just the 10bps like the full auto?
What upgrades should I get and in what order?
If I have an antisyphon 16oz co2, will that work ok for high rof?
Is the stock barrel decent for the time being, or do I have to go get SP threaded barrels now?

Don't worry all, I still have the Pink-Panther Pnuemag.

SP ramping tends to be in the 14.5BPS range.

I shot an Ion with only a clamping feedneck "upgrade" for a few months, though some of the triggers are nice.

I don't know about CO2 - if I recall SP said you could but I doubt that woudl work well at high ROF

The stock barrels are hit and miss, some of them have been very decent, some have sucked.

Ok, I don't usually post if I don't have a good answer, but:

I bought an Ion last week, I'm taking it out this Sat. to run it through it's paces, and I love the thing.

It is small and lite, compared to my Mag's that is, and much faster than any gun I've ever owned. I've only put a couple hundred balls through it so far, but I feel it was well worth every penny of the new price.

My first investment will be a SP QEV, the gas consumption has me a little worried, so anything to improve the balls per fill will be good.

Sorry I didn't answer any of your questions, but the Ion would not be a "bad" purchase.

The Ion's aren't bad guns. Personally I wouldn't run either an Ion or Freestyle on CO2 for long unless you used a high quality reg, and even then I just don't know if a CO2 tank will supply a high enough recharge for a high ROF.

I'd recommend adding a QEV and a clamping feedneck. If you are planning on CO2, then I'd replace the reg. I have heard that the stock regs take a little longer than normal to fully break in, but once they do, they are more than adequate. It just requires a bit more patience.

As for the freestyle, they aren't the most effecient guns. I haven't run mine on CO2 so I don't know how it performs. Mine has NOX lite which is semi only, but the thing can fire faster than I can pull the trigger so I have never had an issue.

            Hope this helps

If you have any ion questions other than the ones youve asked please lmk. I am an Ion fanatic and can prob help you with anything you may need. Anyway, to answer your questions -

You can get 17bps off the stock board, its not capped at 10 like full auto.

Upgrades are totally up to you. I suggest getting the basics first (QEV, feednack, on/off, trigger, barrel, and reg) and then go for performance ups like internals (bolt, fiing chamber, other mods). Lastly would be cosmetics (frame or shell).

C02 isnt a good idea with ions. Even if its anti-siphoned you run the chance of getting liquid into the gun and it can cause issues.

The stock barrel is pretty decent and you shouldnt need to worry about getting a new one for a while.

Upgrades, in order: Feedneck, Aftermarket Detents, QEV, On/Off, trigger (Violent Products Scythe all the way!). That's all I had on mine and it shot well and fast enough. If you are going to do anymore initially to it than that (which will run you into the neighborhood of $350), you might want to look at something a little higher-end-ish. But if you want to upgrade along, the ION is a great marker to add to as you go.

Some will suggest you replace the stock reg immediately, but after about 1500 rounds, mine broke in, and was no worse than +/-5, and was actually +/-3 the last time I played with it. On the barrel, I just polished the stock one (had some powdercoat in it), and there was no difference in accuracy between it and a CP I had, honestly. I would hold out until you could afford a barrel kit.

The only reason I sold mine is because I really like annodized markers, and to replace all of the parts on my ION and get annoe'd ones, it was going to put the cost of my ION into the $600-700 range (I bought it before the $199 price). So I sold it and bought something else, but if I could have afforded to keep it and buy another marker, I would have. It is definately worth the asking price, IMO.

I have an Ion and have nothing but great things to say about it.

                  Ramping is 15bps

                  Stock barrel is ok

Upgrades I personally only have QEV, trigger, clamping neck. Dont buy the bolt kits they are a waste of money for the slight if any benifit you see out of them. The stock reg has been excellent for me.
If you get a QEV get a smart parts 360 it swivels and you dont need to mod the body any. I have a elclipse and it works perfect but I had that before the 360 came out. I didnt like the plastic trigger so I bought a new desigz aluminum one. The SP Q-lock feedneck is the best clamping feedneck I have EVER used. You do not need tools to tighten or losen it.

I have a new board on order. It a t-board from www.scenariodreams.com Best board for the money IMO.

All in all you should be happy with your ION. No matter what the haters say it is an excellent gun for the money.

Your wrong abou the bolts. A number of them do help increase efficiency and reduce kick. I suggest the Nano bolt or the L6.

the first thing Iwould do is run the ion off HPA.

All the ions i have seen and used all had problems with there regs. I highly recomend a aftrmarket reg!

I was thinking At first purchase of the marker:
1st) one of those trigger/feedneck combos from ebay
                        2nd) QEV
                        3rd) On/off

then i'm stuck at this juncture: should I next get a DW carbon fiber body kits, a sith frame, or the lucky stage 1/2/3 ???

I eventually want to have a red/Carbon Fiber Body, the sith frame, and the lucky stages. At this point the only thing left from SP will be the barrel, board, & reg. LOL

What is Lucky stage 3 BTW.

By the time you get into all those upgrades you could have a much better base marker that A) comes with those upgrades or B) Does not need them

If you want cosmetics go for the shell or sith frame (id go with the frame before shell). If you want performance go with the lucky stages.

The stage 3 is a donut that increases recharge rates and doesnt require a c-clip to go on the firing chamber.

lohman - Sometimes its not about what other things you could get at the same cost. I hate it when people try and sway what poeple want to do simply because they believe there is a better option. A nicely upped ion will perofrm just as good as anything else out there. Let him do what he wants.

                              Chaos, you got PM

Also, what is the ramping rate on the ion, How fast do I have to pull to get 17bps. Cause if I only have to pull like 12-13, I'll be pumped!
