    First Electronic Paintball Gun?

me and my friend were talking about oldschool paintball, and the question of the first electro came up....I said shocker, and he says Brass eagle Rainmaker.

which of us is right?(or what is the right answer?) thanks

The PVI shocker might have been the first EPneu but I'm pretty sure the first E gun was just an electronic frame for something that already existed.

There was the electropneumatic airgun made by the US Navy in the 50's.

There was the CCI electro version of the Phantom called the Whirlwind.

There was the PVI Shocker. The Shocker was released in 96. There is rumor that the CCI Whirlwind was created before the Shocker. I consider the CCI the first, although many consider the PVI the first electro gun. Your friend is way off though. The Rainmaker wasn't made until 98.

What about the Sandridge Autococker? It came out before 1998, I'm pretty sure. It had this big cube-shaped battery pack attached to the bottom of the grip and a pretty big solenoid rig on the front block. Heavy, but shot real fast for its time.

Eh it didn't come out before even the PVI. I believe it was in 1998, not before it.

Correction on that, pVI Shocker was released in 1995. Same year as the Angel, though a couple months before if I remember. Rainmaker was the third electropneumatic to be released.

It was amazing how much better the Angel was than either of those. Update the board, slap some eyes in and you can still play with them now. (I was until recently) :-)

You can tell that the Rainmaker started out as a good idea, and then some one at Brass Eagle "Worked their magic" on the final product.

The story goes something to the effect of WDP wanting to sell the Angel state-side solely through BE, but due to whatever complications BE decided to make their own gun to compete with it instead, and that the Rainmaker was their answer to the Angel.
Which is obviously pretty amusing since the Rainmaker is....well it's a Rainmaker. lol

The Angel was definitely the top pick of those IMO, though I don't think it was too good at the time. They all had their problems. The weird issue I go over a lot is the lack of major redesigns to the pVI Shock when SP started making them. Oh well....

You're right, 95. Cuz the Whirlwind is supposed to have been finished in 1994 but never went to market. 95 for the Angel too? I thought that came a year later.

really, and why is that? being an owner of an origional e-mag in 2001, and an sfl, i seem to remember the e-mag being plagued with choping issues, which were only worsened with the superbolt. The e-mag was not a capable marker really until level 10, and by that point it was too late. Angels on the other hand were comming in sexy colors, sexy mill options, and PL versions, not to mention with a full aftermarket supporting it, also they were available with eyes through private upgrades. Not to mention the timmy which also came out before level 10, had eyes, low pressure opperation, and offered blazing speed, with a trigger people loved. So no, the e-mag was not the first e-marker worth a damn.
