powder fill paintballs

OK so they make mace filled paintballs that can be shot from a marker or a special shotgun shell. this same company also makes practice balls which are filled with a sweet smelling powder to tell the user if they have saturated an area, and mark the target as dead. why wouldn't this work for regular paintballs? no more splatter and lots of "sweet smelling" paintballers . what do you guys think?

The company you speak of is known as Perfect Circle Paintballs(unless theres someone else). The company is owned by Tom Kaye...

The balls are not available in mass quantities (for paintballers) due to their price.

They also use a plastic shell instead of a gelatin or starch based shell like usual paintballs.

Also, filling the balls with a sweet smelling substance wouldn't make the sport any neater, considering that they would still contain the same amount of liquid.

you can wipe off paint between games but you can't wipe off a smell, I can see several problems using something like this

Why does it have to be scented? just having a colored powder would be enough. If the powder is fine enough, it'll stick to the player on impact. Then you just dust yourself off after.

Since the powder ball is filled with powder instead of liquid, i would also think that the spinning the ball idea might work better. Maybe make the powder more dense then the liquid paint to give more mass to the ball and therefore adding "distance and accuracy". plus the shelf life on powder paintballs might be longer... don't have to worry about humidity or heat.

In terms of price... If the "pros" use them, the followers and kiddies will follow. Doesn't matter what the price for a case is. Heck there are kids out there playing with $1400 markers with $400 Air systems... why not use $200 per case Powder Paintballs to go with it. The PB industry is run on hype anyways.

Hmmm... scented may be a good idea. A lot of players after a day of PB do have some major BO.

actually the ones i was talking about are found here, pepperball.com. The are for millitary and police use. the can be filled with pepper spray, glass breaking balls, and warter or anti-freeze. i can't find any price info as they currently sell only to law and millitary, but i don't think they would be that expensive. and they are working to become available to private citizens.
the idea is not to mark with the smell but with the powder and that the smell is just an added benifit for all you stank people .
then again what happens if some kid brings the mace balls to a field OMG, that would suck.

I highly doubt they would make a paintball with pepperspray available to the public.

You know, Nelson still makes scented paintballs for hunters to use with their paintball slingshots. They'll also work in regular paintball markers ... I have one of the old DSDS 494 pistols still (Dave's Scent Delivery System). It might be kinda fun for woodsball*, marking your buddies with doe in heat scent, especially during the rut:

Yeah...Tom's company makes the balls for pepperball. PTI is their exclusive distro center.

Definately not happening. People wouldn't change for the convenience of 'not getting dirty', because not everyone would change at once, and so you would still get sprayed with paint while you were 'dusting' the other side for 4 times the price.

Don't know about the powder ball idea, but scented balls are already in use. Great American Paintballs, Dynasty paint, banana scented.
