    backup marker

do mag owners really need backup markers? I know allot of people say they use their mags as backups, but if your main marker is a mag do you really need a backup. what do you guys think.

You don't need a backup for a mag.

Anyone who is pushing any marker to the edge of its limits does. The worst marker for reliability I ever had was actually my E-mag. Mind you I had the level ten tuned very close, the solenoid set very close, the trigger tuned impecabbly, add to this a tank specifically tinkered with to get less RT rise and still allow a great rate of fire and there was a problem waiting to happen every day. Shooting, to this day, it was the fastest semi marker I have ever shot, but it was also one of very few markers that I have also tossed in disgust. Now my mech mag that I have set to just work is almost foolproof.

Ok Lohmman, so when I finally get my mag, should I purchase a $35 PMI from walmart as a backup?

I think I will, just for fun. I bet I will never use it.

My E-mag had basically and RT Pro (it was before RT Pros) as a backup and then a minimag as a secondary backup. My Shocker had an RT Pro as a backup and then after a month a set of three Shockers as interchangeable primary / backups with a phantom if things went really bad. My Ion had a minimag as backup (I was cheap for the month I owned that combo) My Devilmag had a PM5 as a backup and then my PM5 had an Ion as backup. My Minion has my "dream" mag as a backup (Intelliframe, stainless centerfeed no rise body, boomstick, stainless E-mag valve with LX).

It is always nice to have a back up. Do some people go a little over board with backups? Of course, but dont let my girlfriend know!

Me I have a main mech marker and a main electronic marker with backups for each. My main mech is my warped minimag with zgrip, its backup is a non ULE emag with no electronics and a classic valve. My main electronic marker (almost finished) is my tboarded emag, its soon to be backup (it should be on its way this weekend) will be a jax warriors e1ed cocker, and as a second backup I have my tboarded with ultrachip dragun T1. Its a little over kill, but I hate not having a working gun at the field.

I thikn I may just get one of those $100 mask/gun/tank kits from walmart for two reasons:

              1) If my marker gets screwed, I can still play. (I have no delusions about my skill, marker quality probly won't affect my game much, im too good)

              2) I can invite my brother to play, hes got no $ so can't afford one of his own right now. (he just had his first kid and graduated from art school.)

good lord can anybody say gun whores. and i'm trying to figure out if i want to get a mec mag to back my e-mag. for christ sake why do you need secondary backups. other than getting guns to tinker with and then sell i just can't see owning more than 2 or 3. or atmost one of each type of gun style but only if you have the money and time to tinker with them. by that i mean, 1 stacked tube, 1 strait blowback, 1 cocker, 1 pnumatic e-gun, ect. but still thats only if you are retired or own the field. but i can't complain i have bought every type of loader i could find so i think we might all have a little whore in us.

I don't even have a primary gun right now. But that is only 70 pounds away.

ANd for anyone that cares, my wife is on a similar program (but she doesn't need to lose as much as I do). Apparently, she is going to reward herself wit ha trip to Europe, to visit her brother.

My $500 budget just increased to $1,400.00

And, here is the "backup gun" I am going to get:

If you have an E/Xmag and a few orings in the parts kit there is no back-up needed. If you have a few orings for any other mech mags and you have a general understanding of them there is no need for a back-up. Aftermarket electro like a devilmag or maybe pheumatic frame modded mags one might have a back-up handy. If they fail they may take more time to trouble shoot or you might not have the part handy.

i'v got my rt pro tuned perfectly, and never have a problem with it. like once in a case of paint will i break a ball, but thats just a barrel break in the last inch of the barrel.
i dont have a back up, but i do have two main guns. my mag and my phantom. neither of which ever break, because they are so reliable, and because i take very good care of my stuff.

I needed a backup for my 'Mag two or three times. I always oiledit and took good care of it. It was 3 or so years old, so the o-rings may have merely been worn out by then. Ehh, I wasn't happy with it so I sold it and bought a Viking.

I used to not believe in not having backups(just lots of primaries )

then, i ended up with my brothers piranha and my cousins A-5.

Now i have a primary Electro and a primary pump, I also have to back up mech guns and ocassionally a backup up.....but the mechs are rarely brought to the field.

Having extra guns also makes it possible to bring friends into the sport easier(although i need some more masks).

I actually have just gotten used to having so many guns. Since I started tinkering with my dragun-mags and trying diffrent things on them I had quiet a few problems and was forced to have a back up or 2. I take great care of all my guns, I give them all a bath after each game and oil them the night before I go play. However I still have days where everything goes wrong and everygun I touch breaks. That happend to me 2 months ago, I had nothing but problems from my dragun-mag, the level 10 was acting up so I went back to a level 7 bolt, then I started out shooting my evolution and kept getting paint chips stuck between the bolt and the body. I didnt have an extra mag trigger frame at the time (zgrip was at lukes shop), so I was going to setup my electronic spyder. Well come to find out I left the bottomline screws for it at home. So I was forced to choose between my PT Extreme or my Splatmaster. I ended up playing with the splatmaster all day becuse I couldnt get the PT to shoot over 240 that day for some reason. A friend loaned me his freestyle that day also and it ended up breaking while I was chroning it (before I even touched it with a tool it stoped shooting). The paintball gods was not smiling on me that day....

Needless to say, all my markers now have drops/asa's on them and are ready to go.

meh, i dont so much have "backups" as much as i do have other markers i have around for fun.

My prototype ripper 1 timmy, has never so mouch as broken a ball, much less broken down on me, thing works, all the time, and always shoots amazing.

But, that dosent mean i dont have 2 shockers, another timmy, a viking, and a quest laying around to use whenever i feel like it.
