oh? i got an 05 gen 3 cyborg with full matchstick barrel kit, tadao board, clamping feedneck, and all sonic upgrades, for $550 shipped. and this was maybe 4-5 months ago. then i sold the matchstick kit for $75 and a single piece matchstick barrel, since i already have a barrel kit.

ive also seen many older freestyles go for around $250.

I've never shot a pneumag but I've shot lots of mags over the years, I've never been a fan of the e-mag so I sympathize with the your feelings about wanting something different. My favorite mag of all time was my old black Teflon powerfeed mag, which was my primary marker from 1996 till 2002. My second favorite was the original offset hi-rise RT mags; despite the cleaning issues I loved their hopper profile. When I got back into paintball seriously I bought myself a Shocker SFT because the single tube design reminded me of the feeling of my old mag and I haven't looked back since.

If you are seriously considering getting a new Shocker I would wait a little longer until the new models come out. When they do I'm sure you can pick up a 03 style SFT for quite cheap. The resale value has dropped because SP lowered their minimum advertised and the new shocker design will cause resale prices to plummet even further when all the 14 year olds decide they can't live without the latest and greatest. If you wait until the prices start to freefall but before they stabilize you can get quite a nice marker.

Check out the new fusions (Shameless Plug) I know it isnt well known yet, it is still very new, but they are some remarkable markers for the price.

When it comes down to it, try and hold and test fire as many diffrent markers you can, then you should by the one that feels the best to you.

In your price range, I'd buy an 05 Timmy. Small, quick, efficent, easy to work on, and BLAST has the best customer service hands down.

Shockers are poo, especially in cooler weather. Customer service is horrid, the list goes on.

And yes, Ive owned both. And everything else made in the last 3 years

An 05 Ego or UL'd DM5 can be had for 600 too.

I would look for a Viking as well, but I doubt you will find a decnt one for under 600. It will be stock or half milled and heavy. But Viks rule

Have you considered using X-mod for your E-mag first? (if you haven't already got it)

I just don't see the point of ditching your e-mag for a pneumag. When there is the X-mod available now and the soon to be released predator board for it also.

Plus there other upgrades/mods you could do to your your e-mag also.

            Just a thought.

I could mod my emag, but it's outdated, as in way outdated (stainless body, emag vavle, chunky rail and lowers, 2.1 software) and I'd rather not have it updated by stripping it clean and having it ULEd and then paying for a new body and vavle. I'd rather start with a clean slate.

And wow, those Fusion markers impress me. Although, I can't seem to find exactly where you buy them. lol. They look to be good quality for an excellent price.

I own a pneumag (well, a few) and a ULE Emag (currently getting Xmod). I too had AGD2.1 on my Emag and would take the pneumag anyday of the week - however the emag reliability is always there. I'm getting the mag back in about about a week and can't wait to try out the xmod. I do feel that with xmod, the emag will become my primary.

I'm just getting the pneumag dialed in and really well tuned. Used it for 3 games sunday and it shot pretty much flawless. Shoots as fast as I can pull, it's light, and it's just different. I love it.

I also got to shoot Lenny's 2004 shocker vision. Surprisingly, it had darn near the same pull as the pneumag; just as light, but a bit longer and just as easily walkable. I liked it alot, but would be weary of the reliability and support.

If shooting modes are your thing, then the shocker or xmod may be for you. If you pretty much only go semi and recball I might reccomend the pneumag, as you can always a stock CF frame on it for mech if needed. Don't overlook E-Pneus also. Plus the mag will hold it's resale very nicely. Paradigms are priced so well you could probably part it out and loose nothing. And some (cleanly made) pneumags have been fetching $600-800 in the forums here.

If you want some info on xmod PM me - I have some neat info for you

Edit: My ULE pneumag and Emag weighed pretty much the same as the shocker, and I had an 88/4500 + apache and the shocker had a Halo + 68cu

For the recballer moving up, a pnuemag is the better bet.

I got a viking for 450 usd with 2 boards and a nice barrel set (customs raped me, but aside from that ) and it's beauty. Shoots perfect, huge air efficiency and didn't cost me an arm and a leg.

2k4 speeds are nice for the price (if you can get one with eyes, even better. I have one with a timmy board in it with eyes and it's <3)

Matrixes : dm3/gen e - Highly under rated markers at the moment.

I have owned a bunch of mags over the years. They are great guns in many ways. I owned a shocker a few years ago. It was small and fast, but had a few problems that left me gunless for a couple of weeks. First off, the board totally died about 12 hours out of the box w/ the factory battery still inside. Then, the rear switch button broke(my fault) was replaced by SP at no charge. It was a gas hog even w/ HE bolt kit. It was pretty quick after I did the flipped trigger switch mod though. My shocker was serial #18xx so it was an early one. I blame most of the problems on early production bugs and poor QC. I still do miss the gun sometimes, but not enough to make me buy another. I bought an 04 alias 2 summers ago and totally fell in love w/ timmies. I used to buy a new gun or guns every year, but haven't really felt the need since the alias. It has never given me any serious problems and it is pretty efficient and rarely chops. It is very fast and pretty accurate. The one and only complaint I have w/ timmies is that they feel like a $200 gun, but perform like there price. WHen holding an 04 and earlier timmy, it really does feel as if you are holding a $900 spyder.

also look into cyborgs, theyre great for the price. freestyles are good too, although everyone seems to dislike them... which can be good, considering how cheap you can find an 04 or 05 for. and they are similar to mags in design, too. if you want another ICD gun, a promaster is a great choice also. 2 of my friends have them and both love them.
Where are you getting your Price info. You're on the right track, that vikings are definately in the used price ball park, but $400 will get you an 03 very lightly up'd viking. Much better to stick in a bit more and get an 04 with a few more ups( tadao ). I bought my heavily up'd 04 for 585 shipped, including a longbow barrel kit, unmilled matte black. I usually see decent 04 milled/anno'd for $900 or so. If you're looking for a budget viking, spend around $450-$500. You won't be sorry, and I think that's in your price range.
