Took it in to get hydroed this morning. the tech that does the test recomend i talk to the guy i got it from (tunaman i'm looking for you) before testing it. he said that if it were to fail the MFG might want it before it fails to see what accually went wrong with it. i have also talked to a few people about it and the current oppinion is that the MFG should be willing to replace it for free anyway but that i need to talk to them first. anyway i have an e-mail out to tuna as he sold me the tank see what he says and i might get it tested anyway. just waiting for him to check his e-mail

talked to the mfg today they said that most likely what has cracked is the outer plastic coating and that the tank is safe to use, but they recomend i hydro it or send it to them to be evaluated. They say if it fails i can still send it to them to get fixed but that it is out of warrenty. hopefully it will pass and i can still use it.

Just currious how old is the tank? If the tank does not pass hydrotesting they will drill a hole into the tank and it will no longer be fixable, it will have to be replaced.

it is only 2 years old. the problem is if i send it to the mfg, i have to pay shipping across country as well as a fee for them to even look at the tank. and if they have to fix it i have to pay for that as well. if it does fail i can get a new tank for something like $100 or so and just put the flatline on it. with shipping and everything else i figure it might be easier to just get it hydroed and see if it passes.

I can't tell by the pic, but if its ticking and it has a crack in it. I wouldnt use it even if it passed testing. Better to be safe than sorry.

the crack is only in the protective covering. the tank iself does not crack unless it explodes. when they hydro test tanks they put them in a big tank of water and bring the pressure up to just below failure point. they took the tank itself to 7500 PSI and it had no problems. I feel confident in using it now but if it starts ticking again i might not.
