My opinion is no they are not worth upgrading. Not to smart spending boat loads of money to bring them up to par upgrading when You can buy a brand new death cannon for way less money. Stupid me I still do though.

YES, IMO they are if you plan on keeping it for awhile.

if you drop upgrades into almost any marker, the odds are you won't see much of that money back when you try to sell it, with resale on markers being so crappy n all, the mag is no exception.

in the end, its all about personal preference and the only person that can answer that is yourself. like rudz said, go see MOTM and decide if YOU think they're worth upgrading

totally agree with you there, it takes time and money to what you always dreamed of your mag to look like, and Im still always looking for new/used stuff thats hard to get. more to come

money wise? NO, Im still staggering at the amount it cost me to build a fully functioning dallara thrasher hypermag.
effort? Knowing you chose every part on the gun that just raped someones face, and that it always works? Yeah. Upgrading mags is more of a sentimental thing.

Ultimately it's up to the shooter/user.

                  Im my opinion?
Shoot a rogue Mag, shoot a Logic Mag, shoot a ULE mag.

                  All are worth upgrading.

Upgrading your mag isnt any different than upgrading any other marker. Every marker I think of has upgrades(Triggers, feednecks, on/off ASA's, trigger frames, etc). And they usually arent offered by the original manufacturer(redz, shocktech, hybrid, cp, etc).

Well, Tom upgraded nearly every part already. So he kinda ran out of things to upgrade

You had the XMag that replaced the E-mag, the ULE body that replaced the stainless body, then the Tac body that replaced the ULE body for Scenario guys, the XValve that replaced the stainless valve, the ULT that replaced the stock on/off, the Level 10 that replaced Level 7, the I-Frame and Y-Grip that replaced aftermarket trigger frames, ULE rails that replaced stock rails...

What else did you want AGD to upgrade? What new things would you like to see? Just in case your answer is upgrading the e-mag...doubt its gonna happen, so youre just beating a dead-horse.

                    For once we agree.

But you have to admit, the Roller trigger Tom delivered was terrible.
The proto pictures he released were smooth, stylish- it looked classy.

there's nothing wrong with a classic mag ... slap a rt valve in it and have at it ... what kind of ball are you playing???

I play with speed ball with my pgp so I guess I'm used to not having a ROF and the classic mag does fine for me.

It is relative for the person ...

but if you got the $$$$ upgrade my friend upgrade

I love my mags... Its an addiction..... Is it worth the money...no but neither is the car... Is the money spent worth the enjoyment i get out of shooting them... YES...

I started with a classic i bought on ebay for 50 bucks... and then i just kept at it...

I now own way to many and i have dove off the deep end and found RPG and Deadlywind for aftermarket parts...

These are my two newest pieces to my collection:

RPG Chimera frame w/ Viperblade pro, Deadlywind Dallara rail, Deadly Wind wisper 12" barrel, Deadlywind Foregrip, X-valve and soon to come RPG Pariah body

RPG Chimera frame,RPG Exile body, Deadlywind Dallara rail, 14" Freak Barrel, CP forgrip and 15* ASA

The options are endless... But thats good because you can customize anything and everything you want... I love them... and I love the Quality Aftermarket Support that the dealers who service AO and actually love the markers they make parts for.

                        Some good resources are:

In all honesty, for my part at least. The Automag is realized to a good deal of its potential as either a Hybrid mag (Pneu & e-Pneu conversions) or simply an E-Mag of some flavor (Spyder-Mag, Hyper Mag, E/X, etc.). However, I don't believe a lot of this is worth doing for someone who is simply looking for a way to be competative in Tournament ball or even "serious" speed ball. Its one thing to go out to have a good time, its another entirely when it comes to what's cost effective both in terms of initial investment and avalibility of parts.

Sure, I own two E-Mags, I've played in tournaments with them, and I've played very sucessfully recrationally with them. I also need to be sure that I carry a full compliment of spare parts for each of my guns and their air systems pretty much all the time. Why? Because unlike many other guns out there the support base within the retail community is sparse at best and non-existant at worst. It isn't like I can just go to my local shop and buy a bolt bumper, carrier o-ring, reg seat, etc. and so there is a requirement for me to be that much more self sufficient. Also, while it may be rare to have a pro-shop at many of the paintball fields I've played at, most of them do have limited spare parts that players can buy if they're in a pinch if you have a common gun (read, "you're SOL with a Mag in this situation.").

But really, if you buy a custom Mag from Logic, TMS.com or Tunamart, unless you're willing to do some tinkering on your own, you're pretty much finished with upgrades and you'll have saved some cash in the process over bringing your sick 68Automag "up to snuf" as it were.

                            Upgrading VS New . . .

New is almost always a better deal finacially. Even an ION (gasp) will blow the doors off a classic mag for less than the cost of a just an Xvalve alone. To turn a classic into an Emag will cost you 5-700+ depending on how 'current' you want to the classic to end up.

If your planning on playing competitively , then a current elecro marker is even a better choice then any Mech mag upgraded or not.

Financially speaking, a new electro would be the cheaper route, but it all comes down to preference. I personally would favor an Automag over electros simply because mags are unique, and while antiquated, can perform like a champ. After I ditched my Longbow (Thank God...) I was looking at the Mini, but then I realized that a mag would be much better for me.

I like having a truly a unique gun. There is not a single mag at my field, except for the one I'm currently working on (Karta Pneumag).

Performance-wise, the Mini may beat most mags (X-mags and pneumags being the exception). However, I'm still glad that I stuck with my mag. Too bad my Phantom still reigns supreme as my primary marker.
