    Long range barrel for Mags

Hey, can someone recommend a good long range barrel for mini-mag setup? I like to pick ppl off one shot at a time. ( AKA snipping ) I'm not as much as a speedballer.

    Need to know:

    What brand?
    How long is the barrel?
    Why will this work?

thanks for all your help !

Well, if you really want a barrel that'll go farther, your only options are the flatline and the apex. I know they make auto coker threaded apexes, but I'm not sure about the flatlines. Hope this helps.

unless its a flatline barrel, or apex, its not going to make the ball go any farther. A ten inch non "rifled" barrel will make the ball go as far on the same velocity setting as an 18 inch rifled barrel. Hope that answered your question.

Read what Tom had to say about barrels

Things to do to get your paint to shoot straight:

          1. Buy a barrel kit (one with inserts or different size backs) or many different bores of the same barrel. I am not a big fan of smartparts, but the one thing that they do produce that is good is their freak kit. You can usually pick one up for @ 100 bucks, and will always have the right sizes.

          2. Buy decent to good quality paint. If you are using cheap paint it is not round, and will never go straight

          3. Match the paint to the barrel

As far as length I like the 12"-14" range.

If you are only wanting one barrel than get one that is machined well, and buy several different types of paint.

As far as 1 piece barrels. I know that sp progressive barrels work well with marbs. Im not sure what the bore is. (maybe .693)

Edit: a flatline or apex barrel may make your paint shoot farther, but the velocity drops durasticly so the paint will just bounce off your oppoent, and send up a big red flag that will give away your position.

how far a ball shoots depends on the quality of the paint and the paint to barrel match. if you get a flatline and try to shoot someone really far away it will be going very slow when it hits them like someone already said. just get a 14inch barrel kit and you will be fine.

I have been using a freak for years. Being able to buy different backs allows you to use the kit on several markers.

Of course, you could buy a Z-body. They put spin on the ball like a flatline does.

No barrel will shoot any farther than any other barrel when the gun is set at the same velocity for both barrels. The only exceptions are the Flatline and Apex barrels. The Flatline will not fit on any kind of Automag and the Apex bears the same weaknesses of innacuracy and inconsistancy as the Flatline.

A barrel past 16" will actually begin to decrease performance. The ball will begin to slow down thus requiring you to turn up the velocity. Long barrels are inefficient, will not increase your range, and they are unwieldy, decreasing your ability to move.

A good barrel is one that has a mirror finish inside and is made of quality materials. Poor grade aluminum will bend and warp over time, impacting the tolerances and quality of the barrel. Find something that has a good, consistant interior bore. Give us a price range and we can give you some suggestions for barrels that you might want to look at. However, there are so many good choices out there, that we really can't make any suggestions until you zero it down for us with a price range and maybe some other options such as noise reduction or weight.

                    Cheers

Just to shed some light on the flatline issue...............All the flatline does is put a spin on the ball. Its a backwards spin so it imparts some "lift" to the ball. The range is no further than any other barrel, but what it does is eliminate the "arc". You can shoot a flater trajectory with a flatline than you can with any other barrel. Where this really helps out is in the woods. When you try to arc the ball, limbs and trees get in the way. With a flatline, you can shoot under the limbs. It gives you greater effective distance in the woods than other barrels. Not a lot, but enough. And, they are not accurate at all. It almost shoots a shotgun pattern. Apex works the same way, except that it is adjustable as to which way and how much you spin the ball. The flatline is great for getting the enemy's head down and scaring the little kiddies with the noise, but other than that, I dont particularly care for them. And I have an A5 with a Flatline.
WOW, sigs. Havent seen these in a while here on AO.

if the ball is reduceing arc isn't it going farther?

Practice and become a better shot.

Any of those barrels that spin the ball to give it distance might make the ball fly farther and flatter, but you'd better be shooting at a barn since you'll almost never hit a target the size of a person.

You want accurate? Get an 11"-12" twist-lock Freak barrel on a right-feed body mag. You can look directly down the barrel at your target, match your barrel to your paint, and all mag owners should know by now that the 11" barrel is most accurate. Tom said so, which is good enough for me.

I have a Stiffi kit which is quiet but I don't know if it's more accurate.

If you're sniping you should get a Phantom anyway.

I use a 13" armson stealth on my minimag and its incredible. The accuracy of this barrel from long ranges is awesome.
