Wow, I had a similar experience and now how the weekly doctor visits are. Not fun. Luckly though I can see but my vision went from 20/15 up to 20/35. Its weird when one eye is way different from the other. But since then the mask hasn't left my head once playing and never will.Comment

Thank you.you know you play this game too much when the neighbors stop fixing their broken windows...

Pretty sad. Ive never forgot to wear my mask when walking on the field, or generally when on it. Im a ref so this will be a good story to pass onto those who dont follow my rules. :)Comment

I'm also sorry that this happened to you.
I have come to find that the only time on the field that I get truly "hot under the collar" and start yelling in anger is when someone removes their goggles. We play on an organized field, but as a player I have stopped the game and screamed at the top of my lungs (and I can be loud) when I've seen players remove their goggles.
"But I can't see" is the usual complaint.
"I'll lead you back to the staging area right now." is always my reply.
The real-life scariest moment in a game I ever experienced was during a woodsball tournament back in 1995 or so. I was doing a leapfrog move down a trail with my brother and coming under fire. I looked back to seem my brother dash for cover and watched in horror as his goggles got caught in a tree branch and few off his head. They landed about ten feet from him in the middle of the trail and paint kept coming in on us. He dove to the ground and covered his head. I ran over to him and dove on top of him, all the time yelling "STOP THE GAME! CEASE FIRE! MAN DOWN!"
Chin straps have been added to goggles in the last few years and they sure seem like a good thing.
One of my team mates tells the story of a night game where he shot at some movement in a bush only to discover that a kid was in there with his goggles off because they'd fogged up. That kid lost his eye so far as we know.
I try to always have a good idea of what I'm shooting at. Blind firing and hosing bushes can put you on the other side of an eye loss. No one wants to be on either side.
In life I teach my daughter that there are RED rules and there are BLUE rules. BLUE rules are like brush your teeth every day and clean up your room. RED rules are like look both ways before you cross the street and ALWAYS WEAR YOUR GOGGLES.
These rules are not just a good idea, It's your eyesight.

I think the title of this article should have been "Why you shouldn't eat paint chips" or "Why you should pay attention in third-grade English."Originally posted by bamf-hackerBy the end of summer I have saved enough to purchase my first new marker, a Brass Eagle Talon. With its gravity feed hopper and pump action its a big step up from the nelspot with its bolt action and stock feed. Summer continues and we play only one or two more games before winter sets in.

Grammatics aside great story to scare newbs into playing with the right gear. As a long time player, ref, and spectator I have always been strick about masks, we have a sign at our field that reads Goggles on from this point. I never forget to put it up and if any players ignore it they loose booku points, not to mention the refs dive tackle them into the dirt.I can't feel my toes . . .

I agree, it's a powerful message that is very important. I really don't want anyone else going through what this man went through.Originally posted by Sumthinwickedthis needs to be restickiedIl n'y a point de sots si incommodes que ceux qui ont de l'esprit.Comment

I wish I could relate a story like this to all players that come to my field. Its amazing how many times someone telling you to never take something off your head, or the lack of common sense that comes with something so safety oriented can be neglected.
I think I'll try and print this out, and perhaps even if its ok, post it on a page of my fields website. It might not get read very often, but hopefully the story will stick with whoever takes the time to read it.
Definitely should be stickied.Comment
