Well I've finally had the chance to play with my mag a few times. I love it. However, my rekindled love for paintball has also brought back the love for pumps. It has been a long time since I last owned one though. Are things basically the same as they were back in 01? I use to play with a friends cocker back then that he would put a pump kit on for kicks. This time though I'm not sure if I want to get another one. Nothing wrong with them just kinda want something different. Looked at some phantoms and they look super nice. As far as performance though, I have no idea. I've never had the chance to play with one. How do they compare? I kinda like the thought of a few 10 round tubes and a few 12g and I'm set for a few rounds. Anyway my question is really this. What do you guys recommend I get? I really would like to stay under or around $300 if at all possible.

i would build

1. a pump mag

2. build a sniper or buy one thats center feed and stick a feed tube on it.

3. buy a phantom

Its more about what you want and how much you want to spend.

If i were to build a sniper, i would find a cocker body i want with center feed and internals, get a slider frame or a dye single swing trigger frame and put a CCM or WWA pump kit. also using a 3.5oz tank

with 12gs your best bet is the phantom. with some right tweaking i heard ppl get about 40+ shots off a 12g.

first thing i would go out and ask ppl if you can try their pumps before you start building/buying.

I would personally go for a phantom. Cockers are big and heavy. Phantoms are small and light. Small and light is always cool. Not that cockers are bad, because they rock.

Get a CCM Pump

It's also smaller and tighter. The cocker has the hopper and tank sticking out, the phantom is like a pistol, very compact.

Many people run phantoms with hoppers and c/a.

Many people run 12g's on cockers with small hoppers or stick feeds.

My .02 cents.

Try to find a phantom to use for a few games. I have heard that they are TOO light. Yes, TOO light. I have also heard that they are more difficult to aim because the pump handle goes around the barrel. Snipers are underneath the barrel.

I put together a sniper (autococker) for less then $100. I love it.

Some people like center feeds but I have found that my right feed makes it very easy to sight down the barrel.

If you want to use 12g then a phantom is the way to go. Or a late model (1999 or older) autococker with some fine tuning.

I wish I had the funds to build one. Also I really don't feel like hunting for a pump kit and a rail.

Like I said I'm really looking to stay around $300. Maybe more if I get a cocker to get a 2nd hpa. Don't really feel like unhooking my mega reg from my mag just to use my pump.

Besides the ones mentioned above are there any other pumps I should look into. What about Sterlings? Are they any good? Never used one. Anything else I'm missing?

um, no. why does he need a 22ci tank? There are so many variants of both guns that your stated opinions are extremely narrow-minded. I've seen a phantom with a warp feed with Halo on it running off a 68ci tank. I've also seen a SC, 12g fed sniper.

Are you going to try to tell me that this weighs so much more than a phantom?:


The major differences between the two guns are the phantom operates on the Nelson valve train and is a single tube marker while the Sniper would be a two tube Sheridan valve gun. Both are more than adequate and it boils down to what feels better to you.

Sterlings are good, have a really nice, smooth pump stroke. You could also look into some used Nelson clones or old sheridan/ PMI brass or even a Tippmann SL-68. There's a lot of options depending on what exactly you are looking for

My Sniper II is always accurate. My first pump.

But ever since I got my PumpMag, I've retired that marker because it's still near new condition with a 4 digit serial#, an original Sniper II before they became Autocockers.

My PumpMag has been my primary marker for the past 2 years, tourney and rec play. Having been a Mag owner for over a decade, I love this pump gun! The transition felt so right!

My advice is to go with an Autococker pump conversion, they are in your price range and you can't go wrong with that choice - plenty of aftermarket goodies for it later. Easier to purchase and easier for you to adapt to. Stock class is really different, besides, you can still use your HPA with a Cocker style pump.

With Pump play increasing in popularity - your options are growing. Ask to borrow or try a friend's marker to try out. See/evaluate what you like/dislike about the markers you are deciding on.

I was responding to going home and how he said that this particular ccm was lighter than the phantom, even though it had no barrel, it had no feeding system, and it was intended to be run by a CA tank, which is much heavier than a 12 gram. None of the required items for it to work were included, but they were included on the phantom.

My civic is faster than your viper if you viper has no wheels on it. Big whoop.
