Yea as a paintballer we should all respect him. For the paintball industry only though. Since he hasn't created any revolutionary ideas or concepts on medicine or politics. I dig what you mean Alliance, we shouldn't take this whole worshiping thing to a new and crazy level.

**POOF*** say it without swearing.
Doh! Sorry Tom, was taking my lead from another post. Should have left it at ****. Apologies.
In short... newer doesn't always equal better. The newer electros are good at draining your wallet. Just b/c it's not flying off the shelves today doesn't mean it's not better, just a lot better marketed.Last edited by Al_Steel; 03-28-2007, 04:19 AM.

I somewhat agree, although my own reasons for not posting were slightly different.Originally posted by punkncatI said it on the post that was deleted, and I will say it again. Why should we give well wishes to some guy we didn't know?
Would it make you feel better to have someone "send you a card" because someone else asked them to do it? And by the "jib" of the second post made them feel obligated to because of guilt?
I am sure that his posting it will get the word around to the people that the info pertained to, and they will send appropriate sympathies.
If I had cancer, the last thing I would want to do would be to listen to a bunch of people I didn't know reminding me I had cancer. I couldn't think of any way to get his mind off it, since it was obvious he wasn't responsive and I didn't know him personally. Anything I said would be because, and only because, he has cancer, not because I knew him, was friends with him, and could talk to him like a friend.
Tom said he wasn't responsive to emails or phone calls. Sounds to me like someone who is hiding from all the sympathy. He didn't want sympathy, so I didn't want to force mine on him. I admit, I saw that thread soon after it was posted, and didn't post in it, but I didn't ignore it. I learned who he was, and his is another paintball name I will remember forever.you know you play this game too much when the neighbors stop fixing their broken windows...

I saw the post as well, but just didn't feel right posting. I have a very matter of fact POV on death. We all are going to die. There is nothing we can do. It sucks that he knows how and to a point when. How can some guy that doesn't know him come off and say, "Gee it really sucks that you know you are on a short time frame"?

He's actually a very accomplished scientist. He works in the fields of astrology and archaeology. Would you stop acting like a raving AGD fanboi? It's sickening. Just because some loser made a comment about mags being dead doesn't mean you have to make some ridiculous and pointless thread like this.Originally posted by JimmykabootsYea as a paintballer we should all respect him. This goes in the same category as those stupid posts that basically in one line say, "Dude omg teh mags are greatest guns evar!". And that's the whole post... If you have something intelligent or useful to say, say it. Otherwise don't waste forum space. I'm sure you love your mag, but it's not the greatest gun in the world, nor is Tom Kaye a living god. He's a very intelligent man and he should be respected for being an all around good guy. But threads like these just make a joke out of it and they make mag shooters look like 12yos with Ions. Enough is enough.

Everything that is in speedball is in woods ball, everything that is in nascar is in formula one or rally so saying the reverse both sports focus on only a few concepts. Speedball is a different flavour and is enjoyable every now and then, but it gets boring really fast (as does nascar).Originally posted by punkncatThat comparison shows how little you truly know about each sport.

I thinks Tom's reference to NASCAR was to imply that (like NASCAR) we should remove the technological edge that some markers provide, level the playing field, and focus on the player, not the marker. For those of you that don't know, NASCAR has a very strict set of rules for vehicles that are allowed to compete. They are all basically equal in their capabilities and technology. Any new part/innovation must be approved by the NASCAR committee before it's allowed on the track. This means that all NASCAR racers must rely upon their crew, strategy, and their driving skill to pull off a victory as opposed to whoever has the deepest pockets.
But that's a pipe dream. Paintball has become a big money sport now and nobody, especially a manufacturer that's sponsoring a big event, is going to give up their tech edge. It may take an organization or league similar to NASCAR, that will agree upon a standard for markers that are allowed in tournament play to remove the focus from the marker, and put it on the players.
AGD edit: Finally someone gets my ideas right. It is a pipe dream but you have to start somewhere.Last edited by AGD; 03-28-2007, 09:08 AM.

So, it takes no skill whatsoever to drive a car at nearly 200 MPH around a track, inches from other cars and the wall w/o hitting them. Too fast out of a corner and you spin, too fast in and you plow....If it were that easy eveyone would be a NASCAR driver.
Just like the only skill involved in Speedball is to shoot your ramping marker....opponents are automatically eliminated just because you are shooting that much. Heaven knows they aren't, right? There is no skill, no strategy involved. Its all paint and marker.
Anyone who thinks that needs to register for the next "national" tourney in their area in beginner class and get an education.
