I think you missed my point. I'm not saying that a technological edge is the ONLY thing that makes the player (or driver). Of course skill is involved, you don't just jump behind the wheel of a 800HP track car and "poof!" you're a professional racer. All other things being equal however, professional paintball player, driver, pool player, etc. if you give them a tool that is superior to their opponents and they know how to properly employ that tool then their odds of victory increase greatly. If a team has enough money or the technological backing to continue to bring a superior tool to the game then they will always win.

Look at our military, unarguably the best in the world. It's not that other countries don't know how or lack the will to fight, it's just that we have the largest technological edge. Which means that in a "symetrical" fight we will likely win. That's great and preferrable when it comes down to warfare. In sports it kinda sucks b/c one team will consistently sweep the field until someone with deeper pockets or a better mousetrap comes along.

According to Army allowing the curse filter to filter your curse words is against the rules and is a bannable offense..

I would think that one would have to form a cohesive, readable argument before it could really be considered an "insult"

Most assuredly we have taken a tangent here....but as I enjoy the debate.
I ponder, what is this technological edge you speak of within paintball?
According to PSP rules which are used for many different leagues within the states, you may fire a max of 15.2 (15.4?) BPS ramping after/on the third pull. No runaway, no bounce....etc. So if all markers have to fall under those restrictions, and are checked almost every game by officials, what is this advantage you speak of?

For those of you that don't know, NASCAR has a very strict set of rules for vehicles that are allowed to compete. They are all basically equal in their capabilities and technology. Any new part/innovation must be approved by the NASCAR committee before it's allowed on the track. This means that all NASCAR racers must rely upon their crew, strategy, and their driving skill to pull off a victory as opposed to whoever has the deepest pockets.
You only have one thing amiss...it still matters who has the deepest pockets.

Personally, I think the similarity between racing and paintball is uncanny, in some respects.

But that's a pipe dream. Paintball has become a big money sport now and nobody, especially a manufacturer that's sponsoring a big event, is going to give up their tech edge. It may take an organization or league similar to NASCAR, that will agree upon a standard for markers that are allowed in tournament play to remove the focus from the marker, and put it on the players.
This same thing came up last year in several threads, about the same time frame. A couple people made that exact argument, myself one. Why is it such a pipe dream?

I used to think this forum would be able to see past alot of the typical hype and, for a lack of better terms, BS within this industry.

                          This thread proves otherwise...

Just like the only skill involved in Speedball is to shoot your ramping marker....opponents are automatically eliminated just because you are shooting that much. Heaven knows they aren't, right? There is no skill, no strategy involved. Its all paint and marker.

Anyone who thinks that needs to register for the next "national" tourney in their area in beginner class and get an education.
i think you missed the point. Tom's point was that in Nascar, the ONLY advantage one racer has over the other is his ability to race. all the cars are mostly the same.

in paintball, noobs that have no clue, are playing with the new angel mommy just bought them, while experienced players maybe can't afford the new PM6 and are settling with an ion.

tom's pipe dream is to make paintball like nascar. where everyone is on a level playing field and individuals true skill and talent will stand out. he never claimed driving in nascar was easy.
