    Unlimited BPS!

I had an amusing conversation today with somebody at the paintball shop. A guy, who I guess was in his 20's, was showing off his DM6 when I brought my MiniTac Pro in to get the tank filled. He was firing the marker on ramping, but claiming he could really rip just walking it.

This interested me, because I have now seen two different DMs (one a 06, the other an 05 I think) that had shootdown problems. One did it at 18 bps, the other at 20 bps. When I asked what sort of bps he could attain, he claimed "unlimited" with the board he had in it.

Unfortunately, I had some small doubts about that. I asked him what he could actually fire over a chrono, with paint. He said, "This board can go up to unlimited." and proceeded to try and show me in the manual. I decided to press on, asking him what he had actually fired, over a chrono, with paint.

"45 bps." Okay, I have a response, "I don't believe you. The most I have ever seen was 34 bps, using a Q-Loader and a special air supply, on an Automag like this one." (I held up the MiniTac Pro.)

Per two different chronos, my x-valved marker can do 22 bps (without shootdown) if I am providing it 1200 psi. Since that seems high from what I have seen, I am thinking that recording and doing a sound analysis would be a good idea to verify. Also, I have hit 24 bps once over chrono, but do not trust that, because I sometimes get a chuff when firing at the 22 bps that seems to be my max. Despite the claims, at 22 bps, my Vlocity sometimes cannot keep up with the marker and I get a chuff. I verified this with both Vlocity loaders I own, with a brand new set of Energizers in the one.

Has anyone else run into an amusing claim? Also, have others seen what I have with their loader?

I ran into a guy at the local pb store and he had some sort of e-spyder. Claimed it could shoot 30 bps and had ramping.

I've been out of the game a while, but do the e-spiders have ramping? Last I've seen they don't but hey, I suppose if he had some sort of custom board.

At any rate he saw my emag and asked what kind of expansion chamber I had on the thing (pointing to the battery pack).

I told him thats where the elves live that keep the marker in top shape.

The "unlimited" means that there is no cap on the BPS, so it will shoot as fast as the paint can get to the eyes or the marker can mechanically cycle. The chrono may very well have given him a 45 bps, those big red chronographs just time between the first 2 shots of a burst and give a BPS number based on that (eg. .25 seconds between shots is 4 BPS). When using a halo or any spring-driven hopper, it is quite possible to get 45 BPS for the first 2 shots. The only way to get a useful BPS number is to use Goldwave or a PACT timer.

Some people just don't understand the difference between theoretical limits and physical limits.

Yeah , the board software is unlimited but there's plenty of other physical limits to make up for that.

You guys ever seen the movie Big Trouble In Little China? There's a part where one of the 3 bad guys snatches away Kurt Russel's gun right from his grip, holds it up high, and then punches the crap out of it. It just disappears into dust and pieces.

I wish I could do that every time I hear someone speak the world of their marker.

            I'm curious

Was that Zak Vetter video made using a lvl 10? I'm thinking now the max CPS would be higher with a lvl 7.

              Zak's site is here:

He was using a marker equipped with a Lvl 10. He says it on one of the pages about rapid firing AGD markers.

By the way, thank you for that info, AngrySasquatch. I did not realize that was how the red chronos determine bps. I have asked some people, but they never knew the specifics.

That would be a VS3. I have seen one that shot (per a red chrono) 17 bps, but it was experiencing shootdown. Shootdown interests me, now that I have noticed it a number of times.

I don't recall if we were using LVL X when the infamous Mag-into-Scuba 34bps video was made. I think we were using LVL 7.
God....I guess I was probably returning videotapes.

The best is when some kid with one of those newer spyders told me it was just as good as my Cyborg.

                  I chuckled.

Yeah, I love these kids that say their spyders are as good as higher end markers, such as emags, cockers, DMs, PMs etc. Usually when I hear that, they are the first ones I'm hunting down on the field...

I have seen the new PM7 ULed with an aftermarket board empty a reloader b in a hair under 8 seconds, and thats REALLY fast, but only 22.5ish bps...and my classic body single trigger x-valved mag its just a little faster

I know alot of the younger kids that ref at my local field have a great deal of respect and admiration for the mags, and specifically, the E-Mag. I know i had a great conversation last weekend with one of them (couldnt be more than 17 years old) and he said he was really looking forward to seeing my E-Mag when i get it. He even asked if he could shoot it.

So its not a universal attitude. Some kids still give respect when its deserved.

I'd make him prove it. I would even be willing to give him the a hopper full of paint and see how fast "he" and his marker can empty it. That will tell you his true BPS
