As I see it, the shocker is closed bolt by choice. I took a good look at the shocker a few weeks ago and concluded it would have been a better gun being open bolt ;-)
if you attached a drive pin to the forward piston in the shocker, you could make that operate the bolt, instead of using a seperate solinoid and ram. That would at least save the air from moving the bolt.
now, if done right this would also shorten the distance from teh dump chamber to the bolt, that would also save the air that's wasted in route to the bolt. (course this sits under the heading of "my understanding" so it could be a little off)
So.. now we have a shocker tha'ts not wasting air or time moving the bolt sperately from the dump chamber poppet...
now what about efficancy. Now we have another "if my understanding is correct" Dump chambers are more efficant at higher pressure. such as the difference between a normal and a hypermag air valve. (this is the "real" hypermag instead of a mag with a hyperframe on it)
if we shrunk the size ofthe AIR chamber, we'd need to crank up the pressure the gun ran at.. that would kill any solinoid seeing that the shocker already runs above their rated limits.
so instead of using a jet of air to kick the poppet.. what about using a solinoid, emag like to kick the poppet? maybe... I'd also do something to make sure the back side of the dump chamber seals well.
