    Jalapeno Burn Relief

How do you relive the burning sensation from jalapeno peppers?

    My hands are on fire!
    LOL....

The pepper spray we use at work is Oleoresin Capsicum. Cyanne pepper is the short name. Capsaicin has a hotter SHU than Jalapenos do and we just use plain water. You can use dawn dish soap to help remove the oil that keeps it on your skin but it's going to be there for a day or so regardless...

Vinegar. It is a base and the Japaleeno's are an acid. Should take the burn right out.
WOW, sigs. Havent seen these in a while here on AO.

either rinse with vinegar or milk

or rub sour cream or yogurt on them.

works when I make pork green chile with habanjeros

I have no idea, but at the jalapeno eating contest, they said beer or alcohol kills the chemical that causes the burn.

                Chug a beer.

Be careful when taking a leak. Think a burning nostril is bad?

                      no.
vinegar is acetic acid, it is not a base.

Alcohol can work, but it's not in a high enough quantity on beer to have any real effect. A minimum 2% milk and yogurt are best. Milk and yogurt contain casein, which dislodged the capsaicin from the nerve receptors in your mouth. Milk and yogurt will also work on the skin. Soap and water on the skin will do nothing except help spread the sting around and make things worse.

Sugar. Seriously, a sugar packet (in your mouth at least) will take care of the pain instantly.
