    Job offer!

So, I'm 21 and just started my senior year of college, accounting. And I just got my first "real" job offer... because making coffee doesn't count as a real job. Damn Starbucks.

Anyway, the firm I've been interning at since Feb. made me an offer that knocked my socks off-- $50k [which they'll up to anything else I hear... not even am offered... if someone I know gets $54, I'll get $54. Kinda insane], the usual benefits, they'll pay for my masters 100%, books included, 23 days paid off every year, and I can start whenever I want after I graduate.

So, I'm a bit floored with how good the offer is -- the managing partner [who I met with] kept telling me that they were very impressed with my work, work ethic, and drive, so they really wanted me to work here because they said it's not something they find all the time.

[/tooting my own horn for now]

I know some other people are around where I am in school and some others were looking to make job/career changes, so has anybody else heard anything?

Cool man. The benefits are what counts. Find out what you can do to start saving for retirement. That's the important stuff. And paying for the masters degree is pretty sweet.

Don't screw up now though. Securing a job before you graduate takes a huge weight off your shoulders. It makes it pretty easy to party all the time and slip on your grades.

Maybe your potential boss is looking for a "special assistant" to work long nights.

Congrats, that's a very nice salary package.

I'm currently debating between a JD or an MBA. I don't think I want to practice law, but I think it would be very challenging and would teach me more than B-School.

Well, the 50k they offered is higher than they normally start new graduates at, and given that if I hear of anybody getting higher than me, they will match it, I think it would be in poor taste to try and negotiate upwards.

I'm also the first they've offered for the tuition reimbursement to, so it's well above and beyond what people usually get.

Ricker, I'm planning to get my MST [Masters of Science, in Taxation] but I'm mulling over getting a JD at some point later, basically to practice tax law in defense of clients who are audited. Of course, I'll be [attempting to] get my CPA in the short term, so at least from my POV it looks like a decent idea, albeit I need to talk to someone with experience about it.

I'm really just excited for 23 PTO days/year.

if it is a contract job, won't they have to pay you for the duration of the contract, regardless?

I would have someone look over it. The thing is they don't have to rehire you after the contract runs out and it's usually not hourly so they work you a lot more than 40 hours a week and you dont get overtime. But experience in your prefered field is never a bad thing.

ok, I think I understand what you were saying... they dont have to renew the contract, but unless you screw it up, you are guaranteed for the duration of the contract.
