Mexican Immigration

Imagine how much money goes toward health and well-being of other non-Amicans, like people in Africa.
I have know a many of brown people, legal and illegal. The only time that has made a difference is when applying for financial aid. I piece of paper won't make you more or less American. Also, I sometimes get embarrassed by the behavior and attitude of my fellow brownies, but hey, you can be a douche regardless of status. Yes, I realize that illegal immigrants broke the law by crossing the border, which means their existence is a crime. This either makes them outstanding citizens or fearless arshes. I guess what I'm saying is you can't clump illegal immigrants all in one group. The same thing happened to black people, and we all know how that went.
Oh, another note, not all people who cross the border from Mexico are Mexican.Comment

I for one can not stand ILLEGAL immigration, but have no problem with the ones that do it legally.

Hopefully this isn't rehash since I didn't read the entire thread. I just left LA after living there for 3 years, so I've seen a bit of this situation first hand. I'm also a self-professed elitist snob. I'm going to keep this to "illegals" and not "Mexican illegals" because there are plenty of other immigrant groups entering in fairly significant numbers from many countries and races, and I would like to think I'm not racially biased in any way.
With regards to the law; illegal entry into this country is criminal, as simple as that. The home invasion analogy on Page 1 is wonderful. This country has a lot of laws, and many of them are annoying, contradictory, or blatantly stupid, however they are still the law and civilization as we know it cannot function without rules. Expecting a "get out of jail free" card because you broke a law, regardless of if you think it's invalid or minor, is arrogant, selfish, and short-sighted. Last year, I received a $180 ticket for crossing a one-way street, in a crosswalk, with no traffic on the street, on a red walk light. I was not happy, but I paid the ticket, because as asinine as it is, I broke the law. If you expect protection under the laws you agree with, then you have to abide by the ones you don't. Perhaps rather than trying to build a moat with a drawbridge around the country, we should just leave the borders open, and make illegal entry a capital crime, with execution of sentence required within 1 month of failure to document legal status? People might think twice if the consequences of illegal entry were something more extreme than a van trip back to the border or free room and board in jail for a while.
The problem I have with illegal immigration (or most immigration) aside from the legal concern, is that in general, people hopping border fences are not the best and brightest of that nation who are going to sneak in here and contribute something spectacular to society. Maybe their kids will, or their grandkids, after receiving the "benefits" of a US education, but a 40 year old who might have the equivalent of a 4th grade education and a work history of subsistence farming or maybe a mundane craft trade is probably not going to be "taking good jobs" from naturalized citizens, but working for a slave wage in a service job to support all the other people working service jobs. This isn't -always- the case, but it's -usually- the case. Additionally, it seems that illegals often either have families they bring with them, or later "import" using funds they make while they are here. This makes the situation worse for reasons others have already discussed (education/health care system burdens, etc). I'm all for people's families and especially kids having good opportunities to better themselves, but it violates one of my fundamental theories: don't have kids if they are going to have a crappy life.
In a similar vein, I wouldn't mind if about 75% of the people currently living in the US were deported, regardless of their status, on a similar basis of non-contribution to society. Watch the movie "Idiocracy". We laugh because it's funny, we laugh because it's true. Then we cry because it's true.Comment
