    One bad apple...

...spoils the bunch. Basically, the moral of the story is that when one person jacks around, it messes it up for everyone.

So, here is an article to read...pretty short: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,317202,00.html

Basically, a 5th grade girl brought a leftover piece of steak to school for lunch and brought a steak knife with her to cut it. She didn't use it inappropriately and is now under arrest on felon weapons charges and suspended 10 days from school! What the heck?!?!?!

There was a day and age where a 5th grader would walk to school with his .22 rifle, lean it up against the school house next to all his friends, go to school for the day, and squirrel hunt on the way home in hopes of providing dinner for his family.

But because of bad apples, even people who use a steak knife legitimately can be arrested?!?!?! No warning?!?!?

I have a feeling it's only gonna get worse.

    things change

As to bringing a rifle to school: when i was in 5th grade my teacher/friend of the family lent me a rifle to dear hunt with, he brought it to school, gave it to me, i brought it home on the bus, when the hunting season was over i brought it back to on the bus and returned it to him at school. If that happended today everyone involved would be in jail, including the bus driver and my parents for arranging the exchange. Pretty soon they will limit how sharp you can have your pencil for fear that it could be a weapon. Better be safe then sorry

Yah, I carried a pocket knife with me every day since the 3rd grade. The teachers knew and on several occasions asked to use it.

This is all part of the liberal plan to disarm America so there can be no resistance to their taking everything over.

In high school one of the fellows used to carry this huge Rambo style knife on his side every day. He also dressed in full camo, boots and all. We used to call him "GI Joe" and no one thought too much about it. Of course no one at that time had walked in a murdered as many people as they possibly could.....

The other day i was "detained" for having a file in my car, which also happens to be my work vehicle.

Once the campus police let me go to class I was joking around with my AP and tols him if i ever wanted to hold the school up i'd just bring my SKS.

I remember in 6th grade my first year of middle school I broke my ruler but still had to use it so It was pointy from the break but I was a little kid walking down the hall and a teacher took it away and I got sent to the office and I was just walking not even doing anything harmful and that was many years ago and still remember it
so what has it come to?

Here's the thing: more and more these days we are sacrificing our liberty in order to have "security"

I quote security, because as has already been stated in this thread...if someone really wanted to do damage, they could.

I was thinking about this and it's a tough question, but let me pose it here: Would you be willing to die for freedom in this country? I don't mean die by going off to war. I mean would you be willing to keep the freedoms we have in this country even if that means that those freedoms could be abused by criminals, thus putting your life at risk?

When I was a kid you'd fall from the swing and dad would say " ya learned something huh?"

Parents nowadays wanna write legislation to ban swingsets. \

The question I have about disarming Americans is: Since when has a criminal followed the rules?

As for all the craziness around weapons in school, I feel its quite alarmist and fails to grasp the real problems festering in schools. Violence is an eventually and symptom of the much more faceted problem of schoolyard sociology gone amok, that if left unchecked and allowed to spiral out of control I fail to see how we can claim to be shocked that this is the eventual outcome.

Edit: About the only they they get you for at my school is guns. Even that I think they suspend you for a few days and slap you on the wrist. Kids carry knives all the time and I don't think weve had a stabbing yet.

Not to say it isnt a lawsuit waiting to happen...

It has nothing to do with Liberals trying to disarm anyone. It has to do with our (the US's) stupidity and over reaction when it comes to any situation. The fact I can't bring more than 2oz of liquid on a plane is simple stupidity. The fact I have to take off my shoes to fly is stupid. The fact that I had to wait 6 hours, yes 6 hours to get to my house in Germany the day of 9/11 was stupid. They were checking every car/person/animal, yes animal that was going into the houseing area. The stupidity of this is.... it was not a gaited, locked or secure area. If you were going to do harm, you could simply enter the housing area by crossing over a grassy area from a road that bordered the housing area. I don't think any terrorists would sit in line for 6 hours to go bomb someone. It is our retarded reactionary ways that make it possible for a 5th grader to be charged with a weapons charge, or another child to be charged because of a picture he drew.

You see it is stupid things like this we pay attention to instead of the things that could REALLY harm us like not securing our borders, checking cargo that comes into our ports, letting lead tainted products be imported, along with the tainted foods that we eat every day. Last I checked, most of this stupidity happened under a republican congress and whitehouse. So it is nice and to blame the libs for every thing, but it really has nothing to do with politics. It has to do with money. Lots of big corperations would lose a lot of money if we actually started protecting this country from what could really hurt us. Also, then certain people in our government couldn't hold the country hostage with threats of terroism. You know like the form of proof coming in the way of a mushroom cloud... remember all those WMD's Iraq had? Oh and all the nuclear weapons Iran was going to make..... yeah both NOT true. So what was that you said about the liberals?
