The downfall of the US started long before the Republicans took the white house and congress so you can't blame this on just the evil republican greed. And WMD's were not the only reason that we went into Iraq. Clinton Bombed Iraq when he was in office just to push some of the pressure off of him and Monica.

I just want this stuff gone, super low prices

Sure the reason for going into Iraq changed several times, but the first reason given, WAS wmd, THEN it was because sadam was a bad person (that we gave millions of $ and weapons to), THEN it was to bring freedom to the Iraqi people. We almost got suckered into doing the same thing in Iran or did you not notice the hype that was being given.... luckily someone decided another BS war would not be good for America and put out that Iran had stopped trying to produce a nuke in 03 (per our own NIE which of course bush knew nothing about until last month which is total BS). Yet they kept saying how big a threat Iran was and how they were still trying to make a nuke. If they would lie about Iran, don't you think they were prob making up the stuff about Iraq? Never said things were hunky dory before bushy, and as far as Clinton bombing Iraq because of his BJ in the WH, where did you get that info, how about a link.

Of course this thread isn't about all this, it is about how stupid the people that run our country are, and how stupid laws are made to protect us from 5th graders with steak knives while a terrorist can drive a big rig full of explosives right across the border with no guards, or put a nuke in a shipping crate, download such crate onto a truck and drive it to DC and park it in front of the Capital and blow it up. How about we elect people without their head up their 4th point of contact that will fix the problem instead of being part of it.

I'm willing to guarantee that there will not be criminal charges. I'm also willing to bet that the suspension gets nullified.

If the girls parents have any brains and the guts to stand up for their child it will.

What makes me sick is to see kids hosed like this and then subsequently watching their parents roll over and take it, essentially dooming the child to the life of a degenerate.

Folks are always so willing to be "tough on crime", but at some point you have to stop and wonder, if you make the life of "criminals" essentially unlivable after they've done their time and paid their debt, what is the incentive not to simply take the easy road and revert to criminality again. This is doubly certain when you make it impossible for folks of that sort to hold down a job of any sort by encouraging businesses to turn them away (or require them by law to do so).

I find it quite humorous how the baby boomer generation felt it necessary to rebel against and tear down the society of their parents (you know, the one that kept the country in one piece for over a hundred years), and replace it with their grand vision of the future. That worked out well didn't it? Now, instead of building their dreams, they've taken their vision and twisted it into something far worse than the absolute bottom of the barrel pre-1960.

Now my generation is left with parents who don't know how to do their job (or don't want to), which just leads to the next generation being even worse. In another 25 yrs, we're going to be the ones running the show, and we will have come to this point without ever having seen a system that is not "broken" in action. WTH are we going to do?

I mean, I know what I'd do, but I also know a great many folks who would do things I don't even want to think about.

We are in deep crap here folks, make no mistake about it. My suggestion is to fortify yourself in every way possible. Learn to take care of yourself and your loved ones and concentrate on making it from day to day intact. That'll make for a good start, the rest can follow afterwards, but you gotta be alive for there to be an afterward (and the government/police will NOT be there to help should you ever need it).

Keep your eyes open, and use your common sense. Everyone has it, but for some reason, most people suppress it to the point that they nearly forget that it's there at all. A great many of our collective troubles could be solved by more folks reviving their common sense and relying on it instead of a 4" thick book of Federal Regulations and Laws. Everyone would be quite a lot better off.

Oh, and AirAssault, if we get a dem president, I hope the reps take back the congress, and vice versa. Give me gridlock baby! When politicians align themselves in a common direction it generally means they're getting ready to take something away from me that I will never see again. At least if they're tangled up arguing amongst themselves, they don't have time to worry about hosing me.

just to lighten the mood just a bit, why would you let your child do that? bring a steak to school? what a good waste of good meat. it's no good cold, or without a good sauce. can't exactly put the sauce on first, it'll get everywhere in the lunch box and not leave any on the steak. what are we teaching our kids in school??

what i find crappy, in the discussion about how this president is horrible, or that one is, people forget this amazing ability the people are given, we can choose to remove a president from office! but then again, apathy put him into office.

I think teachers and administrators are taking a no-tolerance stance because they are more afraid of their jobs than anything else. What would have happened if someone would have taken the steak knife from the girl and stabbed somebody, after the teachers knew about it? Someone's job would have been on the line. I think that's what it comes down to--teachers are way more cautious because they know that if they let something slide by, even the smallest most insignificant "potential" threat, their as is on the line. Can you blame them? I would do the same thing, minus the severe punishments they're dishing out. They are just ridiculous.

What? You expect parents to . . . parent? How non-PC of you. You should know it's the school's responsibility to do that for the parents. The school district is SUPPOSED to enact policies that protect the children against harm but not to enforce those same policies when a parent allows a child to break one of those policies.

The fact that I had to wait 6 hours, yes 6 hours to get to my house in Germany the day of 9/11 was stupid. They were checking every car/person/animal, yes animal that was going into the houseing area. The stupidity of this is.... it was not a gaited, locked or secure area. If you were going to do harm, you could simply enter the housing area by crossing over a grassy area from a road that bordered the housing area. I don't think any terrorists would sit in line for 6 hours to go bomb someone. It is our retarded reactionary ways that make it possible for a 5th grader to be charged with a weapons charge, or another child to be charged because of a picture he drew.

You see it is stupid things like this we pay attention to instead of the things that could REALLY harm us like not securing our borders, checking cargo that comes into our ports, letting lead tainted products be imported, along with the tainted foods that we eat every day. Last I checked, most of this stupidity happened under a republican congress and whitehouse. So it is nice and to blame the libs for every thing, but it really has nothing to do with politics. It has to do with money. Lots of big corperations would lose a lot of money if we actually started protecting this country from what could really hurt us. Also, then certain people in our government couldn't hold the country hostage with threats of terroism. You know like the form of proof coming in the way of a mushroom cloud... remember all those WMD's Iraq had? Oh and all the nuclear weapons Iran was going to make..... yeah both NOT true. So what was that you said about the liberals?

But as far as the policy... I still feel that it was an over reaction in accordance with my distain for zero tolerance policies.

Oh I agree whole heartedly on zero tolerance policies. I think they are unrealistic and don't allow for common sense and rational case by case decisions.

The problem is that I think we both know that it is people who complain no matter what is done/not done that cause zero tolerance policies. There is too much second guessing and complaining about Johnny not being treated exactly like Jimmy was for similar and sometimes not even similar "offenses". Lawyers then get involved and people lose jobs or school districts lose money because some parent gets awarded money in our "the courts are better odds than the lottery" society we live in now. Or heaven forbid something bad happens and someone is physically hurt or killed and then fingers are pointed at everyone while yells of "why didn't you do something" or "why was this allowed in the first place" echo through the valley.

The whole thing stinks and is actually quite sad. But the schools are often given no choice. And trust me, i am the first to stand up when the schools don't do something right. I just don't see it as being the case this time. It was unfortunate that it happened the way it did, but like I said, it could have been avoided. And once the ball started rolling the school staff had no choice (as was the case for the police as well) but to follow procedure.

Then we get the press..... you know the deal.

I think we actually agree on most (if not all) points.
