That's a pretty good deal from the looks of the pic, I hope that it isn't cause the pic is from the good side . In terms of the 6ers there isn't much you can do, not much fanbase or aftermarket parts for those older 6ers in terms of engine mods. You'd have much more luck swapping it for a turbo 4(svo) with 4 speed(yuck!). I have seen one real clean the other day, it turned my head. Or you could drop in a 5.0. The cool thing about the mustangs is that the parts are easily interchangeable. You could swap out the front and rear lights for the more modern early 90s versions as well as the rear quarter panel windows. It's easy to fix them up with a good junkyard near by. =) Well good luck on your project, hope you don't give up and start on another 400 dollar car!

The tbird disc rear axle is wide than a mustang But should bolt into place. I dont know what troubles it being wider will cause. Tbirds are fox platform so alot will swap over.

I can tell you from first hand experiance that you DO NOT want one of those Turbo Coupe motors. They were complete junk from the get go. You would do much better doing an aftermarket turbo addition than to intorduce yourself to that trouble.

Those 6cyl. models weren't bad. Good dependable transpo. Nothing to do for them hop up wise that I can remember but a decent little powerplant, especially for a car that size.

whats wrong with the 2.3t besides the fact that its only a 2 valve head? The internals are forged.

adding a turbo to a N/A 2.3 is just dumb, if you push anything over 5-6psi you'll burn holes in the pistons..

It'll be getting boost in the spring.

Let me tell you about my "thunder chicken" It was a silver 88, I want to say the first year it had the light covers and the stock hood vents.

Right after I got it, the head blew. I had that fixed and was followed shortly thereafter by the Turbo detonating. I had that repaired followed shortly thereafter by the computer than ran the whole thing went bad, causing it to run too rich and burning up the second motor. Not too long after I had that fixed the new turbo started leaking oil and then the turbo went out again before I could get it in the shop. Something about a bearing or somesuch. SO I limped it around for a while w/o the turbo at all. I had it repaired for the third time, just the turbo mind you. Something happened with the pop off doomahicky, it built too much pressure and blew the head gasket again.
On the way home from blowing the head gasket the leaking oil caught on fire. I stood by the side of the road and watched it burn completly to the ground. I bought the car for a bit less than 10 and easily spend that and half again having things repaired. Every single time it seemed like it was right it was just waiting to leave me stranded somewhere else. I knew the tow companies number by heart.

sounds like you had a lemon, I've got a friend of mine that has had 2 merkur XR4ti's powered by 2.3t ford motors, his first one he spun a rod bearing in drove it 80 miles or so and it threw a rod through the oil pan, it still ran.

he's on his 2nd one now and it runs like a top, no problems with the motor.

I think you've just had bad luck.

i don't understand why people will buy a POC 20+ year old car only to dump more money than it's worth in it, when they could use said money spent on a nicer car that will most likely last them a lot longer...

the car isn't a POC for one.

if i we're to buy something "newer" i would have to make payments on it this mustang is paid off.

i like the style and feel of this car,

plus, insurence cost me $480 every six months

serious man, if you've got nothing positive to add, GTFO my thread.

because its a fox mustang dude, theres no better reason! eventhough it is a 4-eye... plus for the money you would put in a new car, you could make this POC a 8 second car and whoop all the newer cars. im going to build a 93' Notchback some time soon with a 351 or 408..

nice buy, here's my $400 car:

rk, some people just like older cars. for $400 you can have a lot of fun and not be so worried about everything to do with it... i'm not planning on driving my Z for everything, it's a 2 seat coupe, but it is a lot more fun than a Camry

hell of a lot more fun than a camry.

my 4 eye has already gotten more attention than any "newer" car has ever gotten me.

unless i'm dropping 10-20k on a newer used car and $300 a month in insurance than i won't have as much fun in my soon to be turbo swapped mustang.
