I'm going with Army on this one, the Hitler reference pretty much invalidates the rest of the argument.

I was not trying to imply that IL has a high pop. density, I was merely stating that in MA, where I live, we have a similar law, and it was my assumption that it was based on the fact that you can't walk 2 miles in any direction without seeing or hitting a home.

As to lobing projectiles, I understand what your trying to say, but I don't think it came out right. The correct order of actual travel is rifle>pistol>shotgun, obviously depending on factors such as caliber and charge. An arrow will have a much higher kinetic energy, due to a much higher mass, but it won't travel anywhere near as far, gravity insures that.

Chicago is an island unto itself when it comes to legality of owning firearms, perhaps it will be the next DC.

An unarmed populace is not a good thing, I'm not trying to justify one. The only thing I might be guilty of justifying in this thread is mandatory firearms training.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
I wonder how when the house and senate pass codify an amendment using the same exact structure and capitalization as other amendments that the term "people" can refer to two different entities. (individual vs. the collective) Especially when it all seems to be based on the English tradition or requiring both military service and those of certain means to own and maintain their own weapons.
