See, people have to realize, when you start doing things live action you have to make some changes.

Making costume changes because of costs or capability of actually being able to make the suit is one thing. Changing G.I. Joe who was a real US soldier into a panzy european global defense force is NOT something that has to be changed for feasability reasons.

This is a selling out of American ideals for foreign cash. AND I DON"T LIKE IT!

If the almighty EURO is so important then we have no business charging people who sell US secrets to foreign governments with treason anymore.

Well, in case you didn't know, the original G.I. Joe toy line was based around the tall "man dolls" type toys from the 60's and 70's. They were based on the idea of an American soldier in various equipment and service branch configurations (i.e. A Marine version, an Army Ranger, etc.) Then, in the early 80's the 3 3/4" figures rose to prominence with the introduction of the cartoon and the movie. The Joe team was always a multicultural one to be honest...they featured people like Jinx, an Asian-American woman practicing blind Kung-Fu of all things. Plus, they had others like Outback who was Australian.

The basis for the reasoning why Joes had the different, unconventional uniforms was the American Delta Force. In a lot of operations, Delta Operators are placed in behind enemy lines and given the choice to provide their own uniform and weaponry to better blend in with the area of operations. So, this idea was expanded upon for the toy lines making each Joe have their own unique look.

In case you didn't know as well, the G.I. Joe cartoon (and probably comic) were made global a long time ago. The name they know the series and characters by in Europe is "Action Force" and there is no mention of "A Real American Hero" like in our theme song. This happened way back in the 80's because a buddy of mine in England grew up watching the cartoons and becoming a G.I.Joe fan...except he became an "Action Force" fan instead.

So, it's not really anyone trying to change the G.I.Joe old school figures or what they represent. In fact, the 3 3/4" toy line, comics, cartoon and movies had nothing to do with those larger dolls other than sharing a name and military styling. So in essence, you irritation over this movie and what they change or don't change is rather irrational. But by all means, continue to be upset if you wish. I will be first in line for tickets though.

This is GI JOE. A Real AMERICAN hero. The raising of the American flag at the end still gives me goosebumps. Anything less than this in the movie will get me sick.

They have made the changes because they think they can make more money by going "PC". I don't care to support the selling out of America.

Wish they were older, the actors all seem like teenagers.

I will not be going if they are not American. I know something of the history of GI Joe and some of the people honored by making one of the first replicas, and there's no way that's gonna just slip past me.

As far as the movie looks, I sure hope they do better than Transformers. In a movie about giant fighting robots, I want some giant fighting robots! Why they put people in it is slightly confusing to me I don't want to see some kid complain about a robot crushing his moms flowers, I want to see them FIGHT

It's because the storyline involves more characters than just "American troops" and "American issues". You're looking at it as this USA only driven story and characters and what they are basing this movie on (the eighties cartoon and toys, not the earlier bigger dolls and WW2 styled nickname) are not USA only based. I'm simply saying that making an "international G.I.Joe Force" isn't a bad thing. Now, having said that, I don't want it going by it's international name "Action Force"...I still want it called G.I. Um, yes they are all American based. This movie is using characters from the 80's version, which was all about an American team. Yes there were JOE characters of all walks, just like our real military, but they are AMERICANS. The theme, A Real American Hero is heard in the song and printed w/ its logo. The logo has red, white and blue. The Amerian flag could be seen all over the show. In the GI JOE movie it even states "G.I. Joe is the code name for America's daring highly trained special mission force" . Anything different in this movie is a bad thing IMO. They are changing the concept. Call the movie "International Force" or "Politically Correct Force" and see if I care. I'm saying If your going to call it GI JOE and using the 80's characters, then do it right. Who are they to change anything? I agree with wetwrks, anything else is selling out to make the movie accepted to the rest of the world.

What troops weren't "American". They were either former or current US military or US citizens (as is the case of the Drug Elimination Force members). This was true during ALL the series, from the very beginning to now.

I don't expect them to "deal with just American issues". I do expect the Force to go anywhere in the world to deal with the villains. As the Joes always have. But it doesn't require them to become a multinational military conglomeration. G.I. Joe was always a US Military special opperations unit.

Whatever. The point here is that if they make the G.I.Joe movie more international based it will still be a good movie (and it will reach a broader audience). Just because it becomes an international thing and not "Rah! Rah! Go America!" is not necessarily a bad thing. It just is what it is. My only disagreement with your comments are that it's some big Anti-American theme to it and that is highly unlikely. Just because it isn't dripping with patriotism doesn't mean it's trampling on some sacred concept of what "G.I.Joe" is. If they make it internationally based I'll still watch it and be happy they made the live action movie of it. I won't spend my time griping about how it wasn't "American enough" (well, not any more time than I have here anyway.) :) If you feel so strongly about it, stand outside and picket your local theater...sign in one hand, flag in the other. Me, I'll be watching Snake Eyes whoop Cobra butt inside and gnashing on some Dots.

Latest rumors: cameo appearances by (to set them up for bigger roles in a sequal) Brenden Frazier as Gung Ho and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson as Shipwreck. Personally, I think the roles should be reversed.
