need a good non-online video game

Looking for a good FPS/RTS/RPG style sngle player PC video game that does nto require me to go online to play.

I'm in south Dakota for about 2 more weeks, and will need someting to pass the time while the wife is hanging out with her family and doing a lot of nothing.

Any suggestions? It's been so long since I bought or played a single player game or non subscription game, I have no idea what is good out there anymore

i'm a console guy myself, but Call Of Duty 4's campaign was excellent, and if you ever feel like playing online, the multiplayer is great too. Only drawback is the campaign can be easily beaten in a night or 2....I think its like 4-5 hours.

could always pick up an oldie but goodie off the $10 rack.....something like diablo2 would surely fill up your free time.

Mass Effect is a great RPG and can turn into a FPS RPG if you so choose.

Diablo II was a good one, but I played that so much in the past I think I would grow tired of it quickly.

I was looking at COD4 last night, and one called Crysis on the rack at Best Buy. There are about 15 or 16 games up there I know nothing about that are new-ish and they dropped the price on them to 20.00. Not sure if they are trying to get rid of them or if they suck that bad

I might run up later tonight and see whats on the rack in the COD series, seems they had COD 1,2,3 in a pack with an expansion and it was only like 30.00

I was looking at that one - I thought that was an online subscription based game though?

Mass effect, any of the COD's, Prey, Crysis, Painkiller right off the top of my head. And, if you liked Diablo, then you will like Hellgate London. It is what Diablo should have been. Very playable in either 3rd, or 1st person. I will update this list later, right now, I am at work and cant think. I have been playing 1st person shooters for a very long time and have an extensive collection at the house. Will look when I get home.
WOW, sigs. Havent seen these in a while here on AO.

you have a favorite that doesnt take a insane system to run? Was looking at Farcry2 and Crisys, and my system BARELY meets the minimum requirements to run the game.

GRAW2 is fun. I have been playing it for a few weeks now. Might only be available through download now though. Gamestop lists it, but didn't have it at my local store.

Mass Effect is good, and it's not subscription based.
RPG games, neverwinter nights 2 is nice...
KOTOR 2 is an oldie but goodie

Stay away from Crysis. Awful gameplay and its very taxing on your computer. It's pretty, but that's about it.

COD4 is a pretty popular game, but IIRC the single player is very short. The multiplayer is supposed to be fun though.

Portal is a good FPS/Puzzle game. You have to download it off Steam but you don't need internet after that. It's a lot of fun, but short.

I would recommend trying Mass Effect. What are your system specs? It's generally a graphic intensive game, but you will probably be able to run it fine. Unless you're on like a laptop with integrated graphics, then you might have to deal with a slide show. I'm not sure though, I've never tried it.

Im runing the last P4 before dual core came out with a 256mb Nvidia Graphics card and 1gb of Ram on WinXP machine. Inspiron 9300 with all the dell crap removed to increase performance basically.

I may have 2 GB in there now, I cant remember which I upgraded last the PC or the laptop.

I think I might check out Mass Effect or the COD titles - anything good to say about Company of Heroes? Heard a lot when it came out, but now I never see much about it - was it all hype?

for pure FPS, then you cannot go wrong with Serious Sam. This little game is a treasure to play. Not very taxing on the system, but fun and challenging. Very loose story line, but is a shoot fest. And, it is usually about 10 bucks on the discount stand. There are two of them, and I think that the first one is the most fun to play. I have it and, if I want to waste 15 to 20 min. just killin stuff, then this is where I go. But, the game is pretty long and will take a while to complete. Sometimes, when a level starts, and you look out on the horizon of the game, you wonder how in the heck you are gonna shoot all that stuff commin' at you. But, you do

If you have never played it, then I highly recommend this game.
