So... who else is getting nervous?

Considering the state of things today, and the feeling of many that it is not going to get any better anytime soon who is getting nervous? I have children to consider, and that nervousness is borderline to stockpiling...

My question is this, is anyone else getting edgy? I have not quite crossed that line to paranoid (at least in my judgement) but look around and wonder if waiting is the right thing to do.

I've been watching this for the past nine months with growing concern. We're headed for some serious trouble.

And unfortunately, our presidential candidates and elected officials have no clue as to what to do about it.

thats not true !!!! They know EXACTLY what needs to be done & don't have the backbone to do it , and really THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT US LITTLE FOLK , They ( WE ) will be still be buying fuel for thier limo when it's 10$ a gallon , They will STILL be eating steak when we are eating beans out of a can with a white wrapper , They will STILL be living in the house on the hill when we are on the street

IMO the next few years are going to be crap compared to what we are used to. We need an industry to come to the front so we have a money train to ride.....instead we dump $800 billion to save an industry full of companies who dont know how to budget and forecast(housing market growth outpacing population growth? supply and demand....loan to people who have a high chance of not paying back? stupid even if it is backed by the govt). Also IMO a lot of it has to do with negative news coverage making the general public doubt their holdings, selling stocks, and making stock drop artificially lower than the real dip would be. IDK a real solution, but creating doubt is no way to counteract this...it just amplifies the situation.

I wish I had money in the bank, I'd be watching the market intently....waiting for the right time to invest.....it may keep going down for awhile, but when it comes back....a lot of smart investors are going to get rich quick. Invest in companies who are excessively low compared to their capital value, take the ride back up & try to predict where it will level out, pull out and use it to reinvest back into companies who are lagging behind in normalizing to a realistic value....maybe I'm too optimistic.

we could all just move to Australia or something

buy a bunch of gas when its cheap? 50 cents/gallon(diff between high an low) * 55 gallons= $27.50 savings....not bad for 1 fill up. 55 gallons would last ~2 months as long as I didnt make any trips out of town.

might be for collecting rain water or something? lol who knows

someone needs to develop a better battery.....that would literally fix everything. A better battery would provide explosive growth over a whole range of industries(chemical, manufactures, suppliers, product developers....list goes on) and provide a extremely high demand product. A better battery would allow for the creation of better/longer distance/faster electric cars, once again providing explosive growth in the vehicle production industry(much needed) for an product which would have a simply overwhelming demand....and also provide a huge benefit to the consumers who buy the vehicles. The change over from gas to electric vehicles would require expansion of power stations to handle increased loads, which could be done by implementing green energy sources along with more nuclear plants. Everything above would increase employment, foster growth, and advance the economy.....so someone please make a better battery

I'm getting to the point of acknowledging I have 40 acres, stocking up on manual gardening tools and seeds for next year while provisioning for the winter with canned goods. Its too late in the year to put in a wood heater for the entire house, though I am keeping wood stocked for the fireplace. A few books on the subjects (because instant internet knowledge may not be available) are kept on hand as well.

I'm not as concerned about fuel - either its available or it isn't. I'm concerned about the value of the dollar (I'm thinking of the great collapse of the Russian economy) and wondering if at this point its not better to invest in durable goods for barter should the time come to it.

I don't think you will ever see all out anarchy - the state and federal governments have enough projection of force to put down any extended uprising / lack of control.

However, I do beleive in a situation where there will be a lot less every day control of the government and a whole lot less dependency. Also, how many are in any way prepared to live without society as you see it today? Most houses are built very poorly to be able to deal with a long term loss of government services (utilities). Most people are not prepared to sustain themselves over the long run. Granted this would change and most people would deal with it.

I *hope* that community groups would replace government and keep order over time, granted there would be struggles and most people would learn they have to depend on themselves before others to get themselves through. In the past communities have helped each other and those that NEEDED it well, I would hope we would get back to that point relatively quickly without government "help".
