AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.
Just fyi, a fire in a fire place only warms the room the fireplace is in, it cools the rest of the house because it sucks air (warm air) from the rest of the house for the reaction.
My only source for warmth in the winter is fire. my whole house is warm. Usually too warm. I have a 2k sqft house. It is not uncommon for me to crack a window to allow heat out.
I use no air/fans. Just a good old cast iron stove. Speaking of which I am in the market for another. I broke my grate, and the company that made it is out of buis.
Yes, yes i did, granted there could be other variables they didn't test but i remember my house not being as warm when we had our wood burning stove i think, but i was also like 6 or younger, so i could be remembering wrong, so i only have their result to go off of. It does make sense though.
Il n'y a point de sots si incommodes que ceux qui ont de l'esprit.
I'm getting to the point of acknowledging I have 40 acres, stocking up on manual gardening tools and seeds for next year while provisioning for the winter with canned goods. Its too late in the year to put in a wood heater for the entire house, though I am keeping wood stocked for the fireplace. A few books on the subjects (because instant internet knowledge may not be available) are kept on hand as well.
I'm not as concerned about fuel - either its available or it isn't. I'm concerned about the value of the dollar (I'm thinking of the great collapse of the Russian economy) and wondering if at this point its not better to invest in durable goods for barter should the time come to it.
If things get really bad, water is whats going to be important.
As a modern, industrialized nation, do you think it will really get that bad?

if money fails, government has no power and there is no reason for people to supply demand since they are being paid with worthless money. The fact that were modern and industrialized means that no one person or community is self sustaining, making the effects of failure ever worse man these threads today have got me depressed.
what would happen if walmart could no longer turn a profit? they would stop supplying, and what would happen the the communities that are completely dependent on them?
well stocks are dropping daily because of people being scared and pulling money out.
its just all around uncertainty in the future, that includes the upcoming election. The fact there isnt really a strong candidate that gives us something to believe in....we are stuck choosing between the lesser of two evils. Combined that with a massive government decision that the majority of people think was absolutely stupid and disappointing. Then you have the downturn in the housing market just to put some icing on the cake. Probably be more businesses going down the gutter very soon, if that can be avoided then we will stabilize, I'm trying not to think about what will happen if the dominoes keep falling....businesses are all interdependent, our economy is built on business.....see where I'm going?
Lol, some of you are a joke. This isn't the end of the world, you'll be ok.
You sound like Bush.
No, its not the end of the world. Might this be the defining time of change of our generation? Probably. 10 years from now were all going to look back and go "wow, the world sure was a different palce." And I can tell you its most likely not for the better.

Well, I see that point. It just means that the people need to make their voices heard about the direction of the country. It also means that we need REAL leaders to step up in these difficult times.
The problem is, we have a bunch of jokers pretending to be leaders, and the people arent interested in anything other than gov't handouts and freebies. Remember how we got here in November when you are in that voting booth.

And do what? The candidate who didn't vote to bail out wall street would have my vote - at this point it would overcome all of my other serious political considerations. Instead both voted to help out the "powerful" like themselves regardless of the cries of the people.
Is it still representation if ones representative goes against ones will?
