I shot a Judge the other day. Pretty sweet
for those wanting a new self defense pistol

The Judge is a gimmick, the 410 is about the worst self defence round you could find especially when shot from a pistol. It might kill a small snake out by your fence, but not a person. It might hurt, but thats about where it'd stop.
I've not got any expiance with the 5.7 round, but I've heard good things about it. I've thought about picking up a fiveseven, but I'd like to try one first.
For normal concield carry I'll stick with my P230, and for everything else my P250.Comment

Im not into weapons that dont kill.Originally posted by skifeIt might not kill what your aiming for, but it'll surely hit it.
Call me old fassion,... but last time I checked,... people who rob your house and you shoot them but they live to tell about it end up 80% of the time winning a law suit against you. (correct me if I am wrong).
I live in NH BTW,...
Ive done my time behind a rifle and Ive been places I would like to forget when I get older,.... If a little punk wants to come into my home and take something,... I have a Benelli Shot Gun behind my door and a 92FS strapped to my night stand for such occation.
I welcome the un-welcomed

I am not sure on the percentage, but they do indeed win with at least some frequency. One win is one too many IMHO.Originally posted by p8ntbal4mepeople who rob your house and you shoot them but they live to tell about it end up 80% of the time winning a law suit against you. They or the estate wins, the number I was told in the courses was roughly $132K average settlement by your insurance company to the criminals family. THe insurance companies don't take it to trial.Originally posted by grEnAlEinsI am not sure on the percentage, but they do indeed win with at least some frequency. Is it just me or is this a case of 'everything old is new again'? I remember seeing a 45/410 revolver in a gun shop around 13 years ago.
Also, I don't have any experience with 410, but the situation they are marketing the pistol for involves being about 3 feet max from your target. Would a Carhartt stop the shot at that distance?Comment

I remember those.
I would bet (not my life) that a Carhartt at that range would stop (or make totally ineffective) a 410 shot shell from that short of a barrel."Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. Its not" - Dr SuessComment

Just about all 5.56mm flavors penetrate soft armor like butter. The m855 penetrator only helps with hard armor.Originally posted by maxama10Edit: Closest I've seen to AP is the m855 ball, steel cored, I've seen it a few times on different sites.
A big killer of soft body armor is velocity.
For example, a 9mm long SMG will penetrate soft armor with a higher probability than a 9mm fired from a pistol barrel simply due to the extra velocity.Comment

I may be mistaken though.SS192 was the original civilian-spec ammo. SS190 is the AP ammo, which was never available to civilians. SS192 was pulled also because of it's AP properties, but it was never made illegal to own. FN just stopped making it.The ammunition was not restricted for civilian sales, since it is not legally recognized as armor piercing by the ATF. Nonetheless, FN chose to withdraw the SS192 from the market and replace it with the SS196SR, but the SS192 is not banned and is still available in the open market. The SS196SR's performance against armor is diminished due to a heavier varmint bullet (leading to lower muzzle velocity) and a polycarbonate tip that promotes expansion and fragmentation upon impact.Comment
