Yup. I am going to make my own 50bmg rifle from the ground up. Single shot bolt action.
I have the action pretty much figured out, and will be taking several cues from our beloved automags.
I want a cock-on-close bolt... just because its easy to make and I like my enfields. Its going to have a very custom 3 lug bolt design. I am well aware of the 65k+psi max chamber pressure and have designed the lugs/receiver accordingly.
thoughts, suggestions...
should I tac it out, or go bench rest style?
Its gonna have a wood stock just because my dad is an excellent wood worker and I would sure appreciate having something he made on it. So that has me leaning toward the high polish stainless/wood look.
I fully intend on having a massive aluminum bed in it, free floated barrel. I think im looking in the 28-30 pound range. The barrel is a 36" lothar walther 50bmg target barrel. 1.65" OD diameter 8 groove/lands 1:15 RH twist. I have one of their heavy profile barrels on my AR and cant complain so why not... besides... its already chambered so hopefully I can skip buying reamers.
Been working with the parent company of a very large paintball company (I wont say who unless he says its okay) for the past few months thru work, because of their excellent machine shop, and will more than likely have them do a lot of the machine work.
I dont even want to think about the optics right now... the scope alone will probably cost more than the entire build. And ammo you ask... well thats why I am doing it... I have quite a bit already just begging me to shoot it.
So WOO HOO!
50BMG here I come!
