that would be a lot of time and money to invest into a bolt action handgun round plinker. Silenced would be neat....."hey whats going on, that target just fell down all own its own?!?!" says the guy with ear protection in.
So Im gonna do it... 50BMG

Current made Super Sniper sucks balls. Better off saving up change and get a NightForce.
I would also recommend cock-on-opening. Smelly's have always had one complaint.....cock-on-closing. Closing and cocking on such a large cartridge could be more of a workout than desired.

I have since changed the design... right now it looks a lot like a REALLY big rem700, only with 3 lugs, and yes it is cock on open. I was playing with the idea for a while but eventually abandonded it. the whole idea of using an AR trigger group and hammer idea was cool until I got my hands on a bohica arms 50 and saw that it had already been done.Originally posted by ArmyCurrent made Super Sniper sucks balls. but yeah... WOW. The current dimensions are 2.25 body OD and I am struggling hard to keep it under 12" long. The bolt face alone is in the .866"- .875". I am trading off some additional bolt travel (about 1.5" worth) in order to gain easier machining (no custom broach). It may yet end up getting an aluminum sleve over the whole thing like a barret... but I really want to try and stay away from that... and along those lines it may very well end up being a barrel blocked gun.
As for the scope... Really? what didn't you like about it? I am going off of two guys at work that have one in 16X over a 700 and the other a savage custom. Their biggest compliment to it was its zero repeatability... said nothing else could touch it for another $1000. I mean for the price... Its real tempting. I dont think I would be up for $$$ on a night force for at least a few months of ramen for dinner.
There was a long range shoot not many weeks ago here in town, where two guys had their schmitt bender's go bad.. jammed up thier paralax with grit. and the guy that won was using a leupold Mk4... which is honestly probably my next choice.
I am usually the one to say ... suck it up and go all out. Why else would I be doing the 50 thing.
