    New Vehicle thread number 17846

I had a sad event about a month back. My beloved and mostly restored 1983 Mercedes 300D caught fire under the dash and burned slap up. So I finally decided on a replacement this past Saturday.

First let me show you the 300D and what happened to it.

    Before:

    During:

    the aftermath

Next post I will show you what I replaced it with...

I found this thing and love it. It is loaded with all the extras. Premium package, Sport package, Harmond Kardon, 6 speed Triptronic with paddle shifters, Xenons, 17 Wheels and leather... well... you get the idea.

Fast and drives like on wheels. 2006 Mini Cooper S

First off...Damn that was a fire. Cars don't take long to burn up do they?

I like the Cooper S's, they are fun cars. The convertibles do look odd with the roof up though.

        Hey Muz. Long time no...

It probably burnt for 30 minutes. Thats was maybe 15 minutes in and before the Fire Dept got there. It spread from a tiny bit of smoke to full interior involvement in about 10 minutes or less.. All that plastic and stuffing and stuff in the interior is quite a bit of fuel. Being a Diesel that wasn't much of an issue but the car did start itself and turn on all its lights half way through.

Lost my Glock in the Glove box too.

Yep. Doubt it though. Probably ruined the temper on them. Hard to say.

Here is a picture of whats left of it.

This is what I have replaced it with for my EDC...

Irony for sure... and a bit eerie when it cranked itself, turned on all its own lights, then winked at me just before racing itself to death.

                    Rails perhaps?

Nice car. I thought the 300D looked great, had tons of character. It's cool to go a different direction with the replacement, though.

                        LOL... erm... yea....

I would rather have the old Hooptie back. And just felt it could not be replaced. Its like loosing an old Dog.
Hows it going Steel? Long time not talk too.

Most of you seem to have figured out that this is old cphilip but some of you are slow. Ole Unka Phil was an alter ego of mine on here. Also known as "Dirty Old Unka Phil". Want some candy little girl? I don't think Jon ever called me anything else but Unka Phil.

                          i've always wanted a new mini S

only i'd perfer the hardtop with the checkers on it and the 6 speed manual gear box though

I'm not big on the "flappy paddle shifters"

I didn't think I would either but.. its surprisingly fun and easy. Sort of the best of both worlds and idiot proof.
