Horticulturilist and Landscapers - Help me fix my F-Up

Wanted to spray some weed-killer / fertilizer on the lawn.... I was at the store with my little brother, reaching for the squirt bottles of what i wanted, and he goes "NO YOU GOTTA GET THE CONCENTRATE!"

I wasnt in the mood for debate and pulled a "Whatever you want, i dont care."

Well, without paying much attention, i mix it, and spray my yard.

Problem 1. Sprayer is broken, so its constantly spraying a little, never shuts off.

Problem 2. It wasnt weed and feed, it was ground-clear.

So, my front yard has a path of death from where i walked with a sprayer, from place to place killing everything....

    I need to re-build.

I'm thinking i'll need to rip out all the old grass, hack up the dirt, put down some topsoil and seed/fertilizer, and cover with straw?

However, arent you NOT supposed to plant grass unless its spring/fall?

So, what can i do so that my yard doesn't look like total **** until fall?

    Thanks

Spring and fall are the best times to plant, not the only times. Their is no reason you can not plant in the summer. Did you read the bottle? It likely has directions for planting after using it, I doubt something you bought at Home Depot has the ability to perminatly poison the soil. I would imagine after a few good rains whatever chemicals killed everything will be gone. Read the bottle and do a little research on that one. Aside from that remove the dead grass with a metal rake and loosen up the top of the soil. Fertilize and plant. I've never used berlap or hay so you're on your own on that one.

my bro did somethin like theat, i ended up havin to fix it for him. that grass wont be comin back, at least not for a long time.

if u dont mind waiting, u can prolly spread grass seed on the dead areas n let it grow back in. or do what i did n cut out all the dead patches, n put in new grass. we didnt do any straw, n dun remember what season it was when we did it, prolly mid to late summer.

i'm not sure if u'll needa do anything to the dirt below, maybe ask the guys u bought the chemicals from, tho we didnt do anything to it, n the grass is growing fine this year.

Worst case he scrapes 2-4in of topsoil and replaces it.

Tried to find the information about how long it prevents growth....

I didnt find it, i DID find out that if i were to douse the areas with water immediately after realizing my f-up, i wouldve saved the yard.

                            Awesome.
